Title: Dreamcast Z and C buttons
Post by: marioxb on August 13, 2013, 12:13:13 pm
I tried to search, but of course Z and C are too small "words" to search for. My question is, are these exactly the same as digital versions of L and R? I hear some games treat them as extra buttons, making a total of 8 individual button functions? How true is that, and if so, what games? If that is the case, why is it not documented and why are there no official Sega controllers that have Z, C AND L and R buttons?

Z & C are Left trigger & Right trigger.

Madcatz Dreamcast pad (for whatever reason) put the triggers on the face of the controller to make a 6 button layout, but called them Z and C.

^This. I got a Haruman to hack me some DC controllers and 1 was labeled R L the other Z C. Function exactly the same.

Well, I didn't think it mattered until I started doing some googling. I can't see it now (certain sites blocked at work) but I think it was here:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=dreamcast%20buttons%20soul%20calibur&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&ved=0CDkQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.allgame.com%2Fgame.php%3Fid%3D18936%26tab%3Dcontrols&ei=2WkKUsKFDq-x4APKyYDoDw&usg=AFQjCNEqXVPNK2ik_Ug_sDV5cEVkNs-CVw (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=dreamcast%20buttons%20soul%20calibur&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&ved=0CDkQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.allgame.com%2Fgame.php%3Fid%3D18936%26tab%3Dcontrols&ei=2WkKUsKFDq-x4APKyYDoDw&usg=AFQjCNEqXVPNK2ik_Ug_sDV5cEVkNs-CVw)

that shows different functions in Soul Calibur for the C/ Z and L/ R.

Then I saw somewhere were some guy said that the Z or C button performed a Dodge attack in WWF Attitude, but the L and R buttons did not.

I can't find my DC right now for any testing, but if you plug in an Arcade stick, an official Sega licensed accessory, unlike the Mad Catz controllers, does it show Z and C or L and R in the config screens of Marvel vs Capcom?
