Hi guys, first post here so go easy on me... :D
First of all i can't believe how awesome groovymame is making my arcade faves look on my pc monitor!! 8)
Running an HD 4650 with XP32 on a core2duo
Connecting to a Barco CRT PC Monitor @ 640x480
using arcade31 setting
Installed groovymame and calamity's drivers...all running fine, most games are running awesome but a couple of issues on a few...
Galaga...Star background and sound running too fast...if i set triplebuffer on it's fine but then i've got lag.
Street fighter III third Strike and Arbalester won't show, screen flicks a bit but goes blank.
Splatterhouse has sound stuttering issues.
I know I should post the log but can someone explain "idiot's explanation" lol!! how to run the command line...do I have to redirect to the groovymame folder for that command to work? :-[

For getting logs, you run cmd.exe so you enter the console, then navigate to the folder where groovymame lives, e.g. "cd \emu\mame", then run "groovymame.exe romname -v >romname.txt"
...change groovymame.exe by the actual game of the executable and romname by the game you want to run.

Ok guys, here's the first game with issues in GM..
Galaga runs on my 31k barco monitor but the games vertical scrolling and music are running too quick...turning triplebuffer on solves this but adds lag...is there another way?
P.S. This is the generated txt file for galaga Calamity....have I done something wrong? It's very long!!?? Sorry :-[

First, I moved this to a separate thread so we can find it easier.
It seems like you have manually rotated the game from the internal menu, probably in a previous session. Enter the \cfg folder and delete galaga.cfg, this will reset the original orientation.
How are you intending to run Galaga? If you want to physically rotate the monitor so you play it full screen (native orientation), then create an ini with this option:
orientation vertical
If you want MAME to rotate the game so you can leave your monitor alone, then just run it with the default options.

Ok so....did everything you said above calamity...except for your listed rotate_r and rotate_r as different options?
Still getting the speed issues with galaga.....but also some of my vert games are set 1 way and now some are set the other?
I deleted EVERYTHING in the cfg folder.....I have also noticed this speed issue on rally x and puckman...could it be a modeline issue?

All im really trying to do here is solve the speed up issues as i've stated above. :dizzy:

The speed issues are not a problem by themselves, they're just a sympthom of something going wrong behind. They mean v-sync is not working. This may happen after a failed resolution change within a game. Your logs are showing resolutions changes in Galaga that shouldn't be happening.
Regarding the orientation issues, use either rotate_r or rotate_l, depending to what side you rotate your monitor, that will fix it.
Post a new log of galaga once you've fixed the orientation issues and deleted the cfg as adviced, and attach it using the forum controls behind the edit box. This one will help me finding the issue.
Also, try using the 'changeres 0' option to disable the dynamic resolution changes, to check if the issue comes from there.

Okey Dokey...so tried the rotate_r and rotate_l in orientation and all that did was to remove "native" support for vertical games and rotate them so they display in horizontal format.
changeres from 1 to 0 did absolutely nothing either!! :banghead:
The cfg files have been deleted at every step btw....

Okey Dokey...so tried the rotate_r and rotate_l in orientation and all that did was to remove "native" support for vertical games and rotate them so they display in horizontal format.
You're using an old version that doesn't support these new options, please update:

Please update...?....I take it you mean update switchres? can do no probs...can't find a link to switchres on it's own only with the new 0.149 groovymame (my romset is 0.147) please advise after you read below...
I only have 8 custom modelines coz that's all that was created following cools guide on arcade otaku...I mentioned this to him and he said it was normal as running @640x480 on a 31k only pc monitor required very few modes...
I have no remote control software running, again this was a fresh install of everything following cools guide on arcade otaku running on a pc with specs I mentioned at the start.

XP SP3 32bit
2gb Ram
The problems are with only a few games but it appears i've opened a can of worms here...sorry calamity!! :'(

By "update" I meant update to the latest GroovyMAME (that is built upon SwitchRes 014b), test with that and see what happens.

Ok calamity so I went ahead and installed the latest groovymame over my existing, cleared the cfg folder again...setup orientation and im happy to report ALL the games are rotating the correct way! :applaud:
However galaga, pacman, rally x are all suffering from the speedup issue still!! :hissy:

Use this one in case you didn't before. Point to the GM's executable inside vmmaker.ini and generate the resolutions. Post the modelines.txt file here as an attachment. Hopefully you'll have more than 17 modes.
If you're still having issues with galaga, test the following, just one option change each time:
frame_delay 0
multithreading 0
video ddraw

Ok calamity downloded vmmaker 1.3c just to be on the safe side as you said...pointed the exe to the groovymame.exe and setup an ini folder and pointed the ini location to that....set monitor as "VGA" and then ran vmmaker.....modeline.txt attached....a few more modelines i think now!! :applaud:
started galaga.......starfield much better...sound a tiny bit choppy but otherwise I think it's ok....rally x is still going bananas fast though? and puck man has stopped working with this new 0.149 version! Nevermind sortin a 0.149 romset now.
Gonna try your other options just to see what tha dileo is, do you want me to post my galaga.txt again?

Changed back to 0 from 1 as I had heard that increasing it to 1 helped with input lag originally....now rally x...fine!!...galaga....fine!! and the sound stuttering has even gone in splatterhouse too!! :cheers: :cheers:
Thanks for all your help on this Calamity....I know i've taken up a lot of your time on this issue but I really wouldn't have bothered had I not been so impressed with how your drivers and groovymame made my early arcade memories come back to life!!
Is there anything else I need to bear in mind re settings? Now frame delay is back to 0...will i see a bit more input lag?
Also any implications from moving from 147 to 149 romset? will this effect any of the vmmaker settings or groovymame settings?

I'll jump for a second ;) I recommended enabling frame delay because it helps with input lag for me - was testing on one system. There have been developments with the lag in another thread here so keep an eye on that. It might be that you don't need it on your setup, and there may be fixes that come in future versions.
Using 147 was a bad idea from the start :lol

just i got stumped with this strange issue and took tha help of calamity to get back on track...tbh i've not noticed any additional lag since i've changed it but i've quite a bit more testing and playing to do now lol! ;)
i have read the other lag thread and it does sound interesting although i believe there are still issues that need to be resolved...
if you get a chance to read this reply...anything i need to bear in mind when replacing 147 set with 149?
will i need to run clrmamepro again? or can i just point it to the replacement folder set?

I'm glad that it worked finally. I think I know what's happening with the -frame_delay option. You probably need to define a greater value for it, like 4 or 5, instead of 1 (e.g. -frame_delay 5). When defining a low value like 1, you certainly get rid of the lag associated to Direct3D's flip queue, but you don't get any further benefit, and what's worse, you risk entering twice in the same vertical retrace, specially with fast computers and low demanding games: I'd say this is the cause of the wrong speed you're seeing for Galaga, etc.
BTW, the lag with v-synced Direct3D (without -frame_delay) has been confirmed to be 3 frames, so it's a serious issue indeed.

Have set frame delay to 4 and getting better results, lag wise....but a bit of sound stuttering!, so no more tweaking for the time being, only playing now!! 8)
