Title: Vectrex Mini-Cocktail
Post by: Minwah on August 09, 2013, 06:29:09 am
Just an idea I had last night. May need to be slightly bigger than this since I angled the front/back a bit more than I envisaged when taking measurements.

Not sure if I will make it but I do have some spare MDF & laminate...

Hard to see much from that one shot.  Do you have a way to change cartridges over overlays?  That's pretty important.

There were some Vectrex coin op bartops back in the day.  Basically just a timer circuit on the control panel that would shut off after something like two minutes.

Interesting concept!  :applaud:

Just wondered if it might be slightly top heavy, especially if there is a CRT in it...

Would it be cool to have a steam punk version of the retail game instead?  Make it real captain Nemo looking.

Cool! I didn't know that.

This is an interesting project. I reminded me of the project I was going to do, but ended up canning the idea.  But mine was a bartop, dedicated to the homebrew game Protector which was a Vectrex version of Defender.

That, and Lunar Lander are the two games I wanted to run on it.  There are a few links in my old thread that might be useful to you.

Yeah sorry the model is a quick simple one so there's no detail for the Vectrex itself...

But yes, cartridge is the thing sticking out the front (this would need to go somewhere else as the Vectrex itself is in the way). I've made an extension ribbon cable so I can put a cartridge port anywhere it will fit. Overlays can be changed by lifting up the lid.

I wondered too, but it seems fine!

Thanks, that looked like it would have been a great project. Protector is definitely up there in the top games, it's brilliant.

I decided over the weekend to start building it, so I made a project announcement thread:
