Title: "Portable" Arcade fight stick
Post by: Gatsu on August 08, 2013, 11:47:28 am
What's up good people. Been a while since I posted anything....because honestly I haven't had anything to do. Had a few major changes happen recently that have kept me from getting anything awesome done. Got a new and better paying job, and had some medical issues happen with my fiance. So we've been busy.

Things have settled, so I decided to build a fight stick. I had a couple of Madcatz TE sticks, but didn't care for them so I sold them. So making one for myself.

Basically in the design/planning stages right now. But I have purchased a couple of parts.

A Akishop PS360 PCB board, a RJ45 to Playstation 2 cable & Rj45 to Dreamcast cable. Both of those will plug into the PS360 board, making the stick work with the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Ps2, PsOne and Dreamcast. So it's gonna be a sweet multi-console stick.

Having a hard time deciding on the color scheme, but the artwork will be more adult oriented. A little bit of boobage in there...because why not. So obviously won't be posting completed pictures here. But I can post progress photos up until I place the artwork.

Here's a couple of "blueprint/design" images I put together in Google Sketchup and Adobe Indesign.

Subscribed for plans to steal the design for a two player stand alone -controller- system.

Cheers!

It just takes some practice, trust me.

I've been using Sketchup for a couple of years now, and I just spoke with a local CNC guy for something 'new' (heh - top secret!) who needed me to start drawing in Solidworks. (Ugh. Now, THAT's a tough program to learn!) Wish he could use Sketchup.

Minor update. Got the artwork almost finished. Looking for a printer is proving difficult. People have a problem printing booby pics.

Anyway. Got a couple things in the mail today.

(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/gatsugodhand/Arcade%20Stick%20for%20Me/000_0011_zpscee697a9.jpg) (http://s601.photobucket.com/user/gatsugodhand/media/Arcade%20Stick%20for%20Me/000_0011_zpscee697a9.jpg.html)

JLF Joystick and the PS360 PCB board. This thing is slick. The Joystick balltop will be replaced with a dark blue bat top. I don't care for balltops.

(http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/gatsugodhand/000_0009_zps4aeda2bc.jpg) (http://s601.photobucket.com/user/gatsugodhand/media/000_0009_zps4aeda2bc.jpg.html)

The RJ45 to Playstation 2 & RJ45 to Dreamcast cables, and the Joystick case feet.

Hoping to order the rest of the parts I need next paycheck. I already have the MDF sheet laying around. Just need to buttons, RJ45 passthru, the t-molding and a few other odds and ends.

Base color for the case is gonna be black, with blue t-molding.

Also, I need some input. The buttons I'm getting are the the Sanwa translucent snap-in 30mm buttons. The MDF Im using is 3/4" thick. So obviously I need to route some of the MDF down. Would it be better to just route out the button section entirely and mount a small metal plate there for the buttons to snap to? Or can I just have them snap into the plexi Im gonna use over the artwork? Would that be stable enough?

I would go down the metal plate route. The plexi would probably be tough enough, but why risk it     A small metal plate for the buttons to install into shouldn't cost more then a few bucks. Hell if you have an old pc case and a metal cutter.  :laugh2: :laugh2:

I used a guy I found on hyperspin boards named lucian45.  He did some amazing work for a couple of fight sticks I built a couple months back.  Find him here:  http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?14155-Decals-and-Printing-for-your-HyperSpin-Cabinet (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?14155-Decals-and-Printing-for-your-HyperSpin-Cabinet)

Thanks for the printer suggestions. I'll get a quote from all of them and see who will actually do the printing.

Sadly no cutting yet. The weather has been crappy here and the mdf board I need to move won't fit in my cruiser. So gotta wait till one of my buddies with a pickup is free.

So I'll just keep planning and working on the artwork I guess.
