i'm in the planning stages of a 4 player free standing pedestal panel to use with a wall mounted 42" tv. i am working with a cardboard mockup of the control panel right now, i think i'm pretty comfortable with 18" deep x 48" wide....that being said, how big does the base need to be to keep this thing from flipping over? I have 4 small children that will be playing this. (well 2 right now, but my 2 year old daughter will be starting before too long, and we are expecting our fourth in september) so i want it to be sturdy. I plan on using those nylon coated leg leveler things, no casters. i need to keep the shape rather simple due to my limited skillset, however i don't think a rectanglar box is going to cut it..i was thinking 30" wide, 24" deep at the base, with the back edge that slants up to around 17" deep at the top. Do you guys think this will be sufficient? i'd go smaller if i thought it would be ok, but i'm just not sure. I am trying to do this with the least ammount of wood possible since i blew most of my budget on controls and tv. i had delusions of doing it with a single sheet of plywood, but i doubt that will happen. ( i do have a 1/2 sheet of OSB i could use for non visible portions like bottom and bottom of control panel box.) i dont want to cut corners, because i want it to last, however i don't want to spend any money where i don't have to.

or would i be better off building the base more like this?

obviously that looks more stable, however adds complexity and cost to the build.
eventually, i think i might like to implement a 2 pipe system like jikkjack did with his golden tee cabinet, it makes for nice cable management and just makes it look like a complete cabinet instead of a panel next to a tv.

so i need a design that i could adapt that part to as well.
help, i really need some input from the pros

AND I THINK IS BETTER AND EASIER TO INSTALL TV ON WALL WITH A FULL MOTION BRACKET AND ALL YOU NEED IS A HDMI/VGA FROM YOUR PC TO TV (ALSO YA CAN RUN CABLE INSIDE THE WALL SO NO CABLES WILL BE VISIBLE... GOOD LUCK

Do you have any measurements for that? I do have a full motion wall mount for the tv...the pipes would be decorative and for cable routing. The wall is full of blown in insulation, so I don't want to rub cables in the wall.

kept playing with sketchup, added the poles and TV...very quick job, but you get the point

Nice..thanks for the measurements. That cabinet is similar to the one I just sold. I loved it, but it took up too much space in my house, that's why I'm building this one.

i just got this monster for $200 (idk if i over pay ) was full working with snk vs stf i replace arcade monitor for LED 32 (100's pounds less) and im cutting the back part of the main cabinet to make it smaller and removing arcade monitor cover ( back/top)..... btw is my first project..
