Hey Robotron players, as summer is drawing to a close, we are asking if you are ready for some fun challenges of a global, or personal challenge, level.
The challenges are two-fold:
1- VidKidz Extreme challenge- 3-man start, 50k extra man bonus, difficulty 10 (max diff)
2- VidKidz 40 Wave challenge- your best score at the end of the 40 hard-coded waves. Choose your difficulty level (1,5,10) and extra-man bonus level to fit your skill (25k or 50k). 3 man start.
You can share your progress here or at williamsplayersunite.com. WPU is just a light-hearted score place for the Williams community, works on trust, friendship and can be as simple as screenshot, or short YT clip to share your abilities. Remember the fun of putting 3 initials on the screen?!?! If you post a huge score, we'd ask you be courteous to the player community and provide a YT clip from the gameplay, which helps everyone progress and compete in a productive global environment.
Any game platform running real Robotron romsets are fine. JROK, MAME of any version, 19-1 PCB, real hardware. Any romset such as orange, blue or patched blue.

This is motivated by recent input from Larry DeMar, Eugene Jarvis, and Sweden's Mikael Lindholm (MOS)
Eugene- "the proposed track by Mikael Lindholm of diff10/50k, I believe would be the ultimate test of master Robotron players. I do agree, however, that this would be too difficult for the vast majority of competitors. I like the idea of the 40 wave test as a very accessible competition for all players and it may prove interesting due to a fair amount of luck in the random set up of the brain waves, which will add a lot of variety and entertainment. So, the addition of both of these tracks would give something for both expert and aspiring players. I am truly humbled by the skills and dedication of Robotron players and I think these new tracks could inspire a new generation of competitive Robotron players. Thank you for keeping the flame alive. Larry- "I love this concept for a containable tournament. Highest score in 40 waves or less. Play times will be reasonable and good players will be pressured to play at highest level. I would consider this a true measure of skill at any difficulty or free life level."

To be fair, williamsplayersunite.com is more just Robotron unite ... there is nothing about any other Williams game.

I've set my machine to the "normal skill level": Difficulty 5, yadda-yadda. But boy am I rusty.
First couple tries was me getting back into the feel of Robotron, by my 3rd game I got back into a groove and was able to get a paltry 1.7 million. :-\
I haven't got into a comfortable zone yet, but it's coming back! :applaud:
