Will GroovyMAME w/CRT Emudriver's display all of Galaga's screen. I am currently using a 15 kHz CGA Wei-ya monitor. I have horizontal games rocking with my Arcade VGA w/Arcade VGA drivers but I am having trouble getting my vertical games to fit on the screen. I am using Mame 146 and I have tried MameUIFX 147. Both work well but I think I am leaning towards 146 for my finished cab.
Any thoughts?

if u go with mameuifx i recommend version .148, thats the version i use and its a really good release with lots of stuff fixed etc
anyway i dont know all the details of the monitor you are using but if its a standard low res arcade monitor, and you mean you want to display galaga horizontally instead of vertically, then no you wont fit it on the screen without stretching, as 288 lines tall is too much for the monitor to display. you could manage 256 lines though, for games such as 1942, commando.. some horizontal games are 256 lines also, such as r-type and kung fu master
so for galaga you would need to either lose some part of the picture off the top/bottom of your screen, or use stretching to fit everything on the screen (which wont look too good im afraid)

Once again you are here to help! Thanks!! That's what I was thinking but wanted to make for sure. I keep reading about custom settings for games and I was curious if it was possible to have Galaga fit without stretching.

Hi rawbe, it's perfectly possible to display 288 progressive lines on a standard arcade monitor, otherwise the ArcadeVGA wouldn't have such mode. It's just that you have to tweak the vertical size adjustment on your monitor so that the picture is not cropped vertically. Unless you do this, the top and bottom lines are still drawn but they fall outside of the visible screen. Unfortuntely this will affect all resolutions, so 224p resolutions will show big black bars on top and bottom. This means that if you want a perfect vertical fit you need to adjust the vertical size for each individual height when you switch between games.
For this reason many people prefer using interlaced resolutions for vertical games above 256 lines and apply stretching, so they don't need to be adjusting their monitors and so they find an "universal" vertical adjustment that with more or less precission matches most games.
Another advantage of interlacing for resolutions above 256 lines is that you can preserve the original vertical refresh rates.

apologies i didnt realise you could actually visibly see all 288 lines of a game running on a horizontal screen (god i wish i could find a crt tv to cope with that many lines haha)
perhaps to avoid the black borders problem calamity describes, you could have your vertical size potentiometer extended with wires and mounted eg. on your cab control panel, so depending on which game u are playing you could do a quick adjustment to sort out the borders, rather than keep having to reach to the back of the monitor every time
also as calamity has mentioned, i dont think you would be able to run galaga at 60hz this way
i dont know the best refresh rate you could expect..
