Hello fellow arcadophiles.
We have a game room at our company, and in said game room, sitting in the corner, for years, has been an old MACE The Dark Age cabinet. My boss used to work at Atari, back when they made arcade games, and this is one he worked on. The facilities manager wants it gone, and my boss offered it to me.
This is not a production model, but a prototype version of the game, and it appears the cabinet was originally a War Gods cabinet. The cabinet art isn't even silk screened on, it's on big like, decal sheets on the side. The video no longer works, but the rest of it seems to run when I flick the switch. I can hear people fighting, just can't see anything.
My plan, is to rip the guts out, replace the monitor with a flat screen, and MAME it. However, before I do so, I wanted to make sure that this was not some sacrilegious act I would be performing. I had no memory of MACE, and it doesn't seem like it was very popular, but I figured I should check before I become this lady (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/9555526/Elderly-woman-who-botched-religious-fresco-demands-royalties.html).
Here's some pictures if it helps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22290667@N08/sets/72157634801112025/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/22290667@N08/sets/72157634801112025/)
So. . . what says the hive mind. Is anyone going to be sad if I destroy this MACE The Dark Age cabinet?

you could probably sell it for a nice turn around and MAME a generic cab. The tag on the back says proto, so maybe some collector would be interested?
-
:soapbox:
Now I am not a die hard keep it all OE or don't bother type but for the love of arcade geeks everywhere please do not MAME that cab, replace the display or fix it but that has to be a very rare item (have your boss sign it inside the cab since he was on staff at Atari when it was built). I know if I came across that cab I would fix and restore whatever I could.
Best of luck,
Jason

Just read this little bit of wisdom. Post it for sale on KLOV.

Dont mame the proto! You could get a great project cab in trade for that, probably a working production cab if you wanted it.

HA HA HA! Sorry, didn't mean to rile anyone up here, but that's why I figured it was worth checking.
I don't mind selling the cab off, I just have no idea what it's worth? MACE isn't a hugely popular game, and the video isn't working, so that obviously detracts from the price. Does it's prototype nature add to it? What should I be starting at?
Thanks for the tips guys.

Get a Klov account, one of us can sponsor you to speed things along, pic a game you do want - multigame machine or dedicated, offer it in trade and casually mention you've considered MAMEing the proto. Somebody will bite. Lots of some bodies I imagine.

Ok, I'm assuming you're talking about the forums on arcade-museum.com?
If so, I have created an account, also Tumerboy, over there. If someone would be so kind as to verify me, or what have you?
I think if I'm going to be selling/trading it, I'd rather sell the beast off for cash, and then build my own cabinet. Any clue on cash value for something like this (ballpark?)
Thanks again gents.
