Title: RADS - A long term project
Post by: Monkeyvoodoo on July 13, 2013, 02:29:23 am: Another cab idea. I guess this means I'm addicted. Not even close to finishing Take No Quarter and I already have plans for a complete scratch built cabinet. This is going to be a very long term project, as currently I don't have the room, tools, or the parts I need to complete it.

This is only a teaser at the moment and I'll leave it up to you to guess the theme (which shouldn't be too hard)

Since the theme is obviously Fallout; a CRT would be required. LCD just wouldn't look right. My girlfriend just informed me that she has an old 27" tv that she doesn't use. This saves me looking around town.

Now do you think 27" is a little too much?

My cab has a 27" arcade monitor in it, it's a good size and still allows cab to be slim enough for doorway fitting.. ;D Can't wait to see this project come along..!

What I would like is some ideas in regards to the overall feel of the unit. I'm not sure if I want a beat up look or a nice clean, fresh out of the vault look.
And any ideas to make it more fallouty would be appreciated as well.

(if anyone is curious, the cabinet is based off of this. I have to figure out how to get the glow effect on the sides)

Maybe consider something like this (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130600.msg1337164.html#msg1337164) for diffusion combined with Louis Tulley's Antimatter (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,128954.msg1337525.html#msg1337525) build and lit by LED strips.

Depending on the thickness/opacity, you might even be able to print sideart on white adhesive vinyl and use that as the diffuser layer for the LEDs. :dunno

Just a thought, but why not make your 'sides' simple marquee images? Set in some plexi, with an image of the 'dirty' lighting... ...and backlight it. (Just my two cents.)
