Title: Create 1G1R DAT in MAME
Post by: sparry3567 on July 09, 2013, 10:03:18 am
Hi, I have a simple problem which I cannot seem to find any answer to - which means I suspect I'm missing something very simple.

I have been building my own MAME cabinet using XP64, Hyperspin, U360s, Ultralux buttons with LEDBlinky etc and I'm very happy with it.

However, I want now to manage my ROMs appropriately, soi I've started delving into CLRMamePro etc.

I am not a "collector" as such so I'm not concerned about having every version of every game - just the "best" one for me will be fine (English, living in the UK so would choose Euro/English, then US and probably filter out Japanese games altogether).

I have run CLRMAMEPro, and it is using MAME itself to create the DAT file. However, the 1G1R mode remains greyed out, and I can't select "Regions" or "Languages" on the Settings page. Perhaps the standard MAME.dat does not include this?

Looking around, I see sites like logiqx which provided dats but haven't been updated for several years. Older sites point to Dat-O-Matic, but I can't find any MAME dats on here at all. This leads me to think that something has happened to mean that they aren't needed anymore.

So:
1. Am I doing something obviously wrong, and I should be able to create 1G1R sets from the standard output MAME.dat file using CLRMAMEPro, or
2. Is there somewhere that I'm not finding that has the right MAME.dat I need?, or
3. Am I approaching this the wrong way entirely, and I should be doing something else?

If there's a recent tutorial that makes this all clear I apologise for not being able to find it!

I am running MAME 0.149, compiled with nonag.

Thanks

If all you want to do is apply a blunt filter that keeps only games of certain regions then ROMLister will do that.

This does not duplicate the functionality of 1G1R, however.  So if you want to specify regions in descending order of preference (ensuring that games which were only released in one region remain in the set) I'm not sure how to accomplish that with MAME...
