So the other day I saw a news segment about air traffic control centers and noticed some interesting displays and thought I must remember to google those.
Anyway days later the grey matter kicked in and it seems some high res square displays are available - but as is often the case with stuff you want no price is given - so pricey then.
As an example I found This (http://www.barco.com/en/products-solutions/displays-monitors-workstations/air-traffic-control-displays/high-resolution-displays/28-lcd-main-display-with-led-backlights.aspx?tab=specs) 28" 2048 x 2048 one.
I know a square ratio is not ideal and I also know I can not afford one, but do any of you know anything about this type of display or have you used them?.

They're usually quite nice, though it varies quite a bit. Government contracts typically have very long equipment lifecycles, so some models you find may actually be using quite old LCD technologies with corresponding contrast, brightness, etc. limitations.
The last time I looked into these, they tended to start at around $3-5,000 per unit and went upwards of $15,000 in some cases. Probably outside most peoples' budget. Pocket change to Uncle Sam, of course.
