Hi,
Is anyone sharing mame roms on kazaa (or any other p2p network)?
I looked on kazaa and found just 1 zip with about 400 roms and that was pretty much it. Surprising really.

Yep, I have a full set (verified w/ clrmamepro) through .59 on kazaa, and they are downloaded almost continuously. Just search for the specific rom name (kof2000.zip), not "mame roms" or something generic like that.
-
I use limeware over gnuzilla... and have never looked.
Is kazaa much better? Should I try it? I use them mainly for mp3 files at work.
(btw, whats that song that sounds like "snoopy come on come on" but it's not snoopy...)
Anyway, newsgroups are the way to go. Especially since you don't have to worry about someone going offline after downloading 20mg of a 30mg rom

I had problems sharing the fullset over kazaa. Sometimes it would share and sometimes it wouldn't it didn't seem to be able to handle 3000+ files. Also half the time you couldn't find them when I had them shared. I'd try to search for them from work and they wouldn't come back. It's hit or miss on whether you can get them.

So if newsgroups are the way to go, then anyone know a decent free news server with the mame & arcade binary newsgroups?
Thanks,
Lee
by the way, I've managed to find a few roms by name on kazaa so thanks for the advice.

The problem is how to make sure you get the .59 roms for the CHANGED set. The new ones of course will be the new ones. I don't want to spend hours downloaded supposedly new changed/updated roms only to find out they aren't changed for .59.
-
Who cares if you get a version other than .59. If you run romcenter against them it will fix 90% of them anyways as long as it has all the roms in the zip file.

I can't believe you guys are so clueless as to finding mame roms. Mame.dk wasn't the only site that hosted a full set you know. Many of them are rather modest(too many users and they would die) so I won't post names here, but let me just say that there are still TONS of sites that host a full set and don't have annoying passwords and dl manager lockouts and what not. Now these site aren't updated immediately like dk was, nor do they check roms for errors as well. However if you use romcenter as mentioned above. (I highly reccomend it, much simplier to use than clrmamepro.) You can fix them no problems. Romcenter will even generate a plain text list of the missing zips so you can go find them. :)

yep, I admit I'm pretty clueless, thanks for all the info though.
I've just started using clrmame, but if romcenter is better, what's the url?
Thanks,
Lee

http://www.romcenter.com :D
Btw hold on to clrmamepro too, it's useful because it can somtimes fix serious errors that romcenter can't.. You'll probably only use it once or twice a year, but it saves you from having to re-dl that 85 meg neogeo game so it's still worth it.
As for the rom sites, look to australia.... that's all im saying :)

I don't use any sharing programs because I feel like a leech when I do. I can't turn sharing on because over a stinking modem, even one incomming connection hoses my connection.
Broadband comes to my area in 3 months. Must wait.
