Visiting the family in Philly I get to hang out with my father in law and talk shop. Woodworking and arcade cabs come up a lot, but I'm really not in his league when it comes to mastery of the grain. He likes to carve decoys, been doing it for years. Nothing more than wood and paint, here's one of his pieces I had to share

Very nice. :applaud:

That's very impressive. It looks just like the ducks we have around here.
If you get time check out the Barcade in Philly. They have about 20 classic games including Paperboy.

Thanks ill check it out if I can get down there.
One of the things that impressed me the most about this decoy apart from the beautiful feathers is the color work on the head. That isn't a reflection or fancy iridescent paint on the green, just flat water colors

I have one... at least my mother does. It's history is unclear but I've been told that it was a very convincing wood carving once in its life. It has not aged well. It now lives in a bathroom with a broken neck (repaired of course) and a split back. But I digress, the attention to detail some of these master wood carvers is astonishing.

It reminds me of the guy who built a coffee/cocktail cabinet using nothing but hand tools. Quite impressive.
