Friend of a friend has an arcade cabinet built by Bob Roberts YEARS ago. We'll call him Friend A. It was a SFII cabinet converted to MAME, custom artwork and the whole 9 yards. The monitor used was a WG K7000. When I got the call, I assumed it worked but needed an update. WRONG. It hadn't been used in like 10 years, just sat in the basement. When we turned it on, it let out a high pitched whine like nobody's business. So a colleague of his was called to fix it. He'll be called Friend B. This is where the problems start. Caps were replaced. Pots were replaced. Once we thought it was all done, the red stopped displaying. THAT was fixed. Short list of components used:
Intel P4 2.9GHz
2 GB RAM
PCI-E ArcadeVGA card
19" WG K7000 Monitor
I don't know a lot about tube repairs, so I have deferred to this other guy (B) to get the monitor correct so I can do all the PC work. Long and the short of it comes to I would go out to fix it, and the V/H are off, like outside the bezel. No amount of tweaking would fix it. So Friend B was called to look at it again, and something (no clue what) would be fixed each time he came out. In that visit, something else would take place unknowingly, and it STILL wouldn't be right when I got there. To the point I thought I was being gas lighted. I know it's not the PC isn't the culprit, but I can't verify the viability of the Arcade VGA card or the monitor. I am at a stand still because I keep wasting time on an old monitor that seems to never be fixed.
Question I have, were the K7000 monitors always a POS, or are they best for 1 game only? I am about ready to throw in the towel here.

k7000 are a very good monitor(as long as its not the zenith pile of poop)
you just need to get to the bottom of the problem thats all
stuff don't like being switch for long periods,i have enough problems even moving when i wake up so imagine how that poor machine felt after 10 years
whats actually wrong with it now

It doesn't hold sync, and has a hard time displaying games. Could be I dont have the resolutions right, so I may switch back to MaLa from HS. I guess simpler is better for this thing?

Is it possible that you are changing resolutions from frontend to game and game to game?
-
Different games run at different resolutions, I know that. I haven't dug into HyperSpin to see if you can set the resolution manually to display it, or if the ArcadeVGA card resolution is set correctly. Something always seems off, and because I didn't buy the hardware I can't speak to its history (monitor, J-PAC, and ArcadeVGA card).

Yes but my understanding is that with an analog arcade monitor, whether you have an avga or not, you have to stay in one resolution otherwise you will need to make setting changes at the monitor every change, unlike a digital multisync that will retain the settings and auto switch.
Maybe I'm wrong or missing something here.
Is there any game that you can set the resolution on and have the monitor hold stable ( possibly after adjusting)

Every game I start that's a different resolution needs to be readjusted. If MK starts, 400x240 needs to be tuned, but will display correctly. Then if someone plays Pac-Man and it requires 224 x 288 it will need to be reconfigured. I'll have some photos up tomorrow, picking up the cab.
