Now I know everyone is gonna say PinBallJim, but is there anyone else?
I wish Donkbaca would come back, I used to give him a hard time but he took it in stride and came back with something funny all the time.. Generally a swell guy.

Does anyone remember if there was a reason some of these folks left (shmokes, donk, joymonkey, etc.) or did they just fade away? I'm not in P'n'R' (it is for the best) so I must have missed something. I don't remember many people going out in a blaze of drama, except for pbj who just took his posts and went home. I def. miss shmokes.

Missioncontrol, Goz, pointdablame, Santoro and Stringray were great to have here as well. I know I am missing more names myself. Can someone go get these guys back out of their fortress of solitude for more than the occasional random post?
I miss Mikezilla. Good guy, great stories about as random as mine. (Bed wetting GF comes to mind. :laugh2: ) Reminds me of a college roommate I had.
And of course the rants from Donkbaca were priceless. The Centipede/moon patrol rants were so damn enjoyable after hearing threads of endless love for every game of that era. It was entertaining to finally see someone vocal about hating a game. Things got crazy with him in the mix.
I come here for the social interactions more than the video game building, to be honest.

Most of the people mentioned above must have just moved on. Or moved to the "other" forum. Not a lot happens in PnR so don't think that could be a cause. PnR is almost idle except in Presidential election years.

u_rebelscum. Been 3+ years or so since he posted. Huge asset with more knowledge about Mame and it's code than most of us combined. All the other flapjacks listed were great members but Robin's knowledge hasn't been easily replaced.
Ginsu too. He got laid off and went back to school so he isn't as active as he was a few years ago.

I think sadly that some of us are in it for the Journey (Don't Stop... Belivin!) and others are just in it for the destination. You'll see people do something really cool and then they disappear because they built what they wanted.

The door isn't open for Chad. I believe we added a security screen door covered in plywood improperly loaded and boxes of alcohol guarding the inside of the door to make sure he wouldn't get in and if he did then he wouldn't stay.

Well I hope you're right... I personally hate steam, and try to buy an actual copy of a game I like, but as a PC gamer, it's getting tougher and tougher.

In MA that is an almost extinct option. Especially if you're looking for something that isn't new within the last month or pure top 40. Target/Walmart carry very little selection of any of those things and there are few dedicated stores left here. It's even worse in RI.
My wife and I have been purely Amazon for this stuff for years now. We don't want to be but that's the only viable method.

That sucks. We've got three or four dedicated music stores, one is a big chain (can't remember the name) and it's the only one that does really well. I don't really shop there myself. Book stores are slowly going away, but we've still go two.
Kmart and Walmart always stock the latest stuff around here so if there's something new I'll just pick it up. Now old stuff, that's another story. They have a good selection, but if it's something obscure, you are right, you are better off ordering a cd from amazon. That being said unless it's something popular you won't make any money off of old stuff anyway.

If you'd read some of my other threads you'd realize how silly that accusation is.
I'm not even sure what you are trying to argue to be honest. Pc games are still available in brick and mortar stores, but it's fading fast due to steam and similar services.
Console games are still widely available... the xbone tired to change that and they were crucified for it. So for now at least, console games are perfectly safe.
Is there something I'm missing?

I left (but you won't have missed me) after a 90% community backlash at comments and warnings I made about a pre-ordering procedure that went tits up - you know the one.
I advised people not to get involved, and I got ripped apart for it (from the owner of the business, and from senior Admins) - it seems now to have all come crumbling down.
I abandoned my build thread and requested my account deleted / disabled.
I'm back now after two years of illness, and back to building my cab after dusting everything off, but I mainly just ask questions as opposed to getting involved.
It's nice to be back (under a new account), but I will steer clear of opinions from now on - this place is not a great place for discussions!

This is a wonderful place for discussions. Now if you want people to agree with you, that's another story. People seldom agree with me when it comes to certain things, (even though I'm clearly right :burgerking:) but that's ok. You can't take your ball and go home just because you've got a difference of opinion.
That being said, I wish people would understand that we behave differently in everything else and pnr compared to the "real" forums. Some people see us giving each other a hard time just for the hell of it in EE and think that's acceptable in the main forums and vice-versa. The whole point of those forums is to keep the rants and strangeness out of the main forums. A weird set of unwritten laws have evolved over the years and it can be confusing for newbies.

Im not complaining, just explaining what the reasons for me leaving are and coming back - I also miss some of the old guys like 42, and wonder why this community allowed to lose such a massive resource.
This is a great place with loads of tallent, most of which I can only dream of emulating (if you'll pardon the pun).
Im selfish in a way, because I dont want to share my build with the likes of obvious morons - but that is my choice.
I get a lot from my build - its slower than most because if my illness, but I have no time for people who are just out for kicks.

Turned them down before asking the date
Asked the date, said no, asked for a different date, then said you wouldn't come anyway
Scheduled a trip to a different hemisphere to avoid having to turn down a meatup
Participated in other activities of villianous nature to include being a tomfool

Yeah I learned about the inner workings of mame by downloading the source code and poking around... occasionally asking for help if I was confused. Although it wasn't always this way in the past, mame's source is pretty organized and easy to follow. It's only little hiccup is that everything is done via macros, so you'll often trace a action to a macro and then you have to go into the main source to figure out what the macro does. It's still not terribly hard to follow.

I think you have the wrong idea about Jennifer, Yes I could learn it However I have little use for it. My only interest "was" faithfull emulation practices for the preservation of the games. Not unlike you guys all DM really ever said was" learn to change the code if you dont like it", That mixed in with a pinch of frustraton and possibly questionable people skills... He was one of us and chasing away that kind of passion IMO was a mistake.

I think you have the wrong idea about Jennifer, Yes I could learn it However I have little use for it. My only interest "was" faithfull emulation practices for the preservation of the games. Not unlike you guys all DM really ever said was" learn to change the code if you dont like it", That mixed in with a pinch of frustraton and possibly questionable people skills... He was one of us and chasing away that kind of passion IMO was a mistake.
