Update: Issue Resolved - Thanks to anyone who offered help and suggestions
I hook my Ipac2 up and start windows, launch hyperspin, hit the joystick and I get a black screen. I never had a problem while using a mouse and keyboard so I must have wired something wrong

someone please, after hyperspin loads up and I hit a button, i get a black screen, this didn't happen when I was using a mouse or keyboard.....what am i doing wrong :dunno
-
you didn't map the keys to the stick directions something weird did you?
heard a guy once, he said that if you pressed these 2 particular buttons at the same time the game would disappaer to the menubar. turned out he'd mapped the 2 buttons to ALT and TAB :laugh2:

i didnt map anything. I load hyperspin, hit any button and i get a black screen :hissy:

ps2 or usb?
some people have experienced issues with using USB, but have none with the PS2 connection.
-
ps2 to usb. Would it have anything to do with insta-sheller? I can't pinpoint what is causing this....hyperspin, insta-sheller, ipac....oooo so frustrating :banghead:
I'm so close to completing my cab

Did you go thru the standard work in the proper order?
Get the emulator working
Get the emulator working in HS
Add Shell or other enhancements

I receive many support emails from people using Hyperspin. All kinds of different random issues. Owing to the volume of issues with this front end and also that I have not used it myself so have no in-depth experience of it I have had to adopt a policy of asking people to try another front end. This always seems to work.
I realise this is not very helpful but I am convinced there are hidden issues with Hyperspin and multiple keyboard or game controller devices.

load up notepad and see if the keystrokes are getting through.
if they are it's a software issue not the ipac hardware.

iPac2 with Hyperspin works fine for me.
Did you try the WinIPAC application (http://ultimarc.com/download.html (http://ultimarc.com/download.html)) to verify the iPac is correctly wired (and functioning) before blaming HyperSpin?

Just get a better front end or BUILD YOUR OWN FRONT END. Cough.

I think you have a point here.
But I would ask one question, if the controller is showing in control panel, game controllers and its been tested working functioning. Surely any Front End can register the joystick/buttons and will work with it ? Am I missing something ? I got so annoyed with HS I wrote my own front end and am currently showing others how to do the same on another thread, Software section if your interested.

I know this is off point here, but can I take a moment to say Hyperspin would be great if it wasn't for the way it lists every game ever on the mame list. And it is a right sod to edit.

A lot of them probably downloaded it already set up expecting it to be plug 'n play and have no clue how to use it.

Suggestion- rename this thread to the original title, with [SOLVED] at the end. Changing the title to "Close Thread" doesn't really do anyone any good. At least with the original title, someone with a similar issue could be helped.

wierd. the bad ground must have been causing a feedback of some kind through your computer system when a button was activated.
