As promised here is the build log for the three Mini\Cabaret machines I am making.
They aren't being built in any order, it is pretty much when I have the parts I build. The one that is almost complete was done in 6 hours from when I started the other day. Then made some copies of the side to build some more. I think one will be a vertical cabinet, not sure yet.

Waiting for a quote on the "39 buttons and 6 joysticks"
Themes will be:
- Red vs Blue
- Green
- Red, white & blue - this is the vertical one
-
A little over 25"
Hmm, Are you building these for children? Just seems with an added 12" to the height they could be legit cabarets that adults could use.
good day.

I sit quite comfortably at it, and I am 5' 11"
Here are some pictures of the first one completed. I fell behind on the progress of the other two, started a conversion cab for someone.
Theme is red v blue - lightning (to save time I just re-used\re-sized the art from my lightning bartop build (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,123461.msg1314421.html#msg1314421))

Single-handedly keeping the West Coast home arcade scene alive.
:applaud:
Solid work, man. You're a machine.
Thanks boss!
Got an offer for a set of the side panels today so I might only have one more left to build.

Not sure if anyone would be interested, I am willing to sell the side panels to make one like this. Half ass flat-pack if you will.

I was just meaning the ones I already made
but...
What would I sell them for?

no idea. Just figured since you had already sold a few what would be the harm in selling more and having a decent looking website.

Hello I have been watching this site for a long time now and really want to make an arcade. Though I have limited funds and resources. How much would you be selling the side panels for? You are located in the sacramento area right?

Haven't been taking many pictures but here is another one
(http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag134/CoryDee/IMG_0519_zps9e35cf6c.jpg)
I call it, the "Green Machine"! Also it was picked up by a gentleman for his kid's birthday within 5 hours of it being completed.
Cheers!

If using the access door as a coin door becomes a regular thing on your mini cabs,
they would look sweet with some red square pushbuttons with 25c labels on the inserts.

Ah thanks for that boss. That would look much better. I threw that one on because I didn't feel like torching another coin door with thermite and this one was just taking up space. I do offer clients the option of a real coin door or a modded one like in the picture.
Link saved!

Another one, figure I would just use this thread to post all of my mini cabarets I build that are of the same model.....I call them...."Model 2"
I added button surrounds and removed a useless button from my designs, Cheers!

Cory. LET. ME. OUT. That squirrel won't stop mocking me!
You have no idea how true that is. There is a tree in the middle of my back yard that the squirrels climb all over and it drives Yoshi (my dog) nuts. I swear they mess with her on purpose, she will be laying down and they go up to her and then run back to the tree making her lose her ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. :laugh2:

Started building 2 more, pictures as I finish them. Have been able to knock out the complete shell in under 4 hours then it is onto the aesthetics and electronics.
;)

I made the templates taller to find a sweeter spot for "children standing" & "adults sitting"
Was going to wait till it was completed before posting but the forum was seeming slow this Friday.......

The cabinet to the left is my first ever Mini\Cabaret build that I did for my Nephew's 3rd birthday (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,128626.msg1314729.html#msg1314729). I have it again because he has gotten taller and I added another 4" to the height (you can see if you look closely at the base)
-
Dude, these are GORGEOUS. do you have any tips for someone who's considering making his own cabaret cabinet? Yours are just about the best I've ever seen, even beating the actual ones from back in the day.

As far as overall tips, that is a hard one. But I would have no problem answering any questions directly that you may have. I am much better at that then coming up with guidelines.....Once again thanks for the compliments.

The main thing I'm wondering is the eyeballed design for the cab. All the work I've done has been off meticulous plans, and obviously there aren't a lot of those for these mini-cabs. Any advice on doing the basic case design well?

Oh god. Maybe I am very lucky or just really good at it. All of my designs are free hand, just eyeballing as you say. I measure for the height of the cabinet, then measure how high i want the control panel to be then free hand the curve with a pencil in between the bottom of the marquee area. I have done this with each type of machine design.
What do you mean by basic case design?
Also, if you want I would have no problem getting some of that big paper stuff and tracing my design and sending it to you. You could then put it on a piece of wood with some wood glue and cut it out :D

Cory, do you just trim your way through the whole sheet or do you cut it close and then trim the edges?
-
I trim my way through the whole sheet like a boss! Kicks up dust like a ---maternal-smurf---. I then have an outline for future builds, kind of a reverse template??

Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Cabaret Build
Over the past couple of days I built a MVC2 Cabaret around the XBOX game. I had a request to convert a MVC to a MVC2 and ought parts to do so and the guy flaked out so I had enough laying around and wanted to make something before I am away from my shop. No worries though, the deposit he put towards the parts was left behind as well so this didn't cost me too much out of pocket.

The pace at which you complete builds makes me feel insecure.

Don't be down, chum. As a guy who selectively shaves his head on a regular basis - like, every summer for the past five years - there's nothing to be sore over. The first time I ever trimmed it down to a "number two", the first guy I saw said, "aww, I didn't know you were going bald!"
That was about ten years ago - and I'm still not losing my hair yet.

I had been getting my hair cut shorter and shorter for the past year now and I have been paying my hair lady good money to do it (she massages my head for like 15 minutes afterwards) so now I just cut my hair myself really short like you see and pay her half just to wash\massage my head. My hair gets to exactly where I want it after a week or two (my hair grows fast) I also go to a full body masseuse separately but that is another story (and more expensive).

Dang, that is possibly the slickest one yet.
How'd the wiring for the controllers go? Did you just skip the triggers entirely, or do something to translate them to the arcade buttons?

I just skipped the triggers entirely. I de-soldered the potentiometers from the board to put the on the other side and then tacked them in place with a bit of hot glue. Other than that it was pretty simple, the only thing is that the directional pads and the start\back button are on a separate ground for the controllers I bought.
Thanks!
