hi everyone
sorry for all the mistakes i will make, i'm french.
this forum as awake some old memories. when i was younger, looking at people playing on those big machine; i didn't have money to play so most of the time, just watch
today i want to build one for my sons. it will be a new game experience for them (and for me )
i want to use my cnc (70x100) for that . as i 'm a 3d modeler, it is not difficult to make a plan which fit these dimensions
it is based on the ultimate 2 design (but smaller)
so let's put some picture to have your comments

Looks like a great start. I am interested on how you will connect all the smaller pieces to give the cabinet strength.

Bienvenue! I would advise against having a right handed layout and a left handed layout on your control panel. I can't remember is the majority of arcade games in France are righty or lefty, I think the joystick is for the left hand. I know it looks nice and semetrical but your players will be more comfortable with a standard orientation.
The cab design is nice, I'd like to see some integration of interior sub panel illumination. If you're fabricating in pieces you should really be able to do some nice effects channeling light around the build to give it a nice glow.

i will detail the connection between part. i will make simple slot and tabs i think
it is a mistake , of course, the joystick must be on the left side of the button for each player
good idea about the glow effect. can you detail how to achieve this please ?

I would place RGB LEDs behind each raised panel and have the panels slightly raised with a minimal airgap or use translucent plexi to act as a diffuser. That would give the cab a nice glow that would then be either linked to a micro controller or through an LED blinky and interfaced with the cabinet's front end.

it will take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive , i guess
i will go on modifying the plan

What kind of CNC machine are you using? Router, Laser, Plasma, Water Jet?

Love the idea, but I think you need to abandon the tab idea and simply go for a pocket approach. It would not only be far easier and quicker to cut on the cnc but also far easier to finish on the external once assembled. I too started out with a small cnc and moved to a large one. Also as I am sure you are aware you will have to add fillets to all the slots since the router cannot cut a square hole.

tabs and hole will make the assembly easier, so i stay with this idea for the moment

i receive every parts today: usb controller, buttons and joystick
need to find a computer to put inside and cut phase can start

That would be my concern as well. I tend to side with the thought that milling half the material thickness away at the seam points on each side (for the long side sections), and overlapping them with glue between, would be the easiest and most sturdy way of going about this. Pockets for the rest. But I'll reserve judgment until I see the result :)

This is true. The thing is, you will still need to put some sort of support material behind the jigsaw joints to give it stability, so that pattern of cuts is probably extraneous. The same could be done with straight cuts, with fastener holes for the interior support piece, which also provides for proper alignment.

really like your design, it looks a little like modified ultimate 2 with a twist.
I wish I could do 3d mock ups like this............I cant even use photoshop :'(

Move the CP into the bottom, it will add stability to the cabinet. When you tuck everything into the top they become unstable. Or throw a few bags of kitty litter in the bottom since you have all that storage room.

I love the idea and it's been brought up before, but I don't think wood glue and furring strips are going to be strong enough to hold the jigsaw together. I would seriously consider a frame of 2x4's or 1x2's inside where you can screw individual pieces to the frame for enhanced stability.
