Hi everyone, Im starting this build thread for my current project a Kiss themed mini pinball. What Im hoping out of this thread is some feedback and also alot of help especially when it comes to hooking up the Ipac2 and wiring all the buttons to work with visual pinball, future pinball, and hyperpin. My build and parts specs are as follows (keep in mind this mini is on a budget).
1. msi am3 microatx board MSI 760GM-P23(FX)
2. AMD Athlon II X3 435 2.9 GHz Triple-Core
3. Galaxy NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1gb GDDR3 PCI Express
4. Corsair Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9) DDR3 1600Mhz 8GB Kit
5. X2gen MW19R 19" LCD monitor
6. I-INC IH253DPB 24.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor
7. I-PAC2 controller with USB cable
8. ultimarc buttons (led with chrome bezels)
9. 1 Rock me launch ball button
10. Creative SBS 350 2.1 sound system
11. 120mm fan
12. 80mm fan
13. Piano hinge
14. 24''x48''x1/4 lexan sheet
15. (4) 28 1/2 in bally pinball legs
16. misc. hardware (bolts,nuts,latches)
17. 4'x8' MDF sheet
The pc is built and software is currently working (with a keyboard no Ipac2 and buttons). I also started building the cabinet today. I hope to get some help when it comes to wireing the buttons and configureing them to all the pieces of software. Thank you for looking at my project and any future help you may offer.

Lookin' good there portugese pirate!
I will help where I can.

Looking sharp so far, on these vpin builds it seems like the components communicating correctly can be a huge hurdle time and again. Take your time and post often!

To support almost every VP/FP table out there, check out my posts on wiring the Upper Flipper and MagnaSave encoder inputs in parallel so you have two flipper buttons per side, but they control 3 functions.
How are you handling nudge? Sidewinder hack, buttons, plumb bob . . .

So good, so far, your alright ;) if you know what I mean >:D
I was thinking the same to do a KISS theme mini pinball for my next build ... rock on...
Do you copy the original KISS pinball or do you design your own theme?
I keep an eye on you

thank you guys for your kind words.....Im waiting on some glass right now.....so no more further progress has been done.....jigejuke and pl1 I will take any help I can get...How many buttons do you guys suggest with hyperpin. Superfrog I get it...lol. Its going to be an updated version of what it might look like now, maybe. It will have all 4 members on each side. Thinking bout going with a black and orange color scheme.

Not sure -- never dealt with the hyperpin front end. :dunno
The question still remains: How are you going to handle nudging? (BTW forgot to mention the floating lockdown bar option earlier.)

Pl1 at this point because of budget constraints Im just thinking bout using the buttons to nudge/magnasave......if that is possible......update glass showed up today.......fabricated lockdown bar and corner angles out of stainless steel will have pics coming soon

Buttons for L/R/Up are the easiest and most consistent way to get digital (fixed amount of nudge per button press) nudge.
To cover the widest number of VP and FP tables with the fewest buttons, use a layout like this left side view:
---------
1 2 |
3 |
1. Left Upper Flipper/MagnaSave (A and Left Ctrl) -- both IPac inputs wired to the same button gives both keystrokes for one button press.
2. Left Main Flipper (Left Shift)
3. Left Nudge (Z)
You may want the Up Nudge button front and center so you can hip-check the button without taking your hands off the flippers.
I look forward to seeing the lockdown bar pics. ;D

Question PL1, why the seperate Main and Upper flipper buttons?

Question PL1, why the seperate Main and Upper flipper buttons?
Defender table uses the Right Upper Flipper as "Smart Bomb" -- you only get 3 IIRC.
Same deal with MagnaSave, if all 3 are tied to one button, you'll waste the MagnaSave almost every time within seconds of it being enabled when you use the Main Flipper to keep the ball in play.
With some tables, you can have a ball stalled on the Main Flipper and want to hit another ball with the same side Upper Flipper during a multiball mode. (http://www.emofaces.com/png/15/emoticons/wizard.png)
The reason that you can get away with wiring the Upper Flipper and MagnaSave together is that no tables have both of them and the table will ignore the extra keystroke for the feature it doesn't have.

ok here is some more progress sorry for the delay.....yard work is piling up on me along with the real job.....lol.
The lock down bar and side rails for bottom and top box are complete. They are made from 22ga stainless steel. The lexan has been cut and put into place, and also the speaker holes have been cut in lexan. The back door has been made and hinge put on. The back box has been put in place and also hinged for storage or for moving. I also found decals on ebay to place on the side of the bottom cabinet.

would it be possible to wire both right hand flipper buttons that when they are pressed at the same time to be the right nudge, and wire both left hand flipper buttons that when pressed together to be the left nudge?
-
I don't see how that would work without causing possible gameplay problems by mixing flipper and nudge functions. :dunno

ok boys and girls the painting has begun :applaud: :applaud:

Thank you superfrog........here is a pic of completed paint job, and also a pic of cabinet decaled up with two coats of polycrylic applied.....I will add two more coats to give it a nice gloss........next will be painting the bezel on the backglass lexan.....wish me luck

Hey there PP,
Lookin' great! I was hoping that you would have done the original white cabinet with the stenciled members, but this looks AWESOME!

Looks great! :applaud:

thanks guys......I thought about doing original cabinet for long time, I love the look of it. I just dont think I couldve done it justice.....I hope to one day own one (gotta sneak it past wife). Tommorrow I will attach the legs and maybe attempt painting the lexan.
-
ok first off sorry for all the updates....but trying to get this done.....lol. I mounted the legs, fans, speakers, backglass monitor, and the lexan bezel.
The painting of the lexan monitor came out better than expected. It was also easier than expected. I taped off the area that was not going to be spray painted, then I scruffed it up with a scotch brite pad and then wiped it all down with isopropyl alcohol. Im very happy with the results. Tommorow big day.....Ipac2 and buttons....wish me luck.
-
ok just a lil update....monitors , pc, ipac2, and buttons all in. It is very playable now, which is slowing down process of completion.....lol. I just need to wire up leds on buttons, some wire management, and then button it all up. Having lil issues with hyperpin loosing focus sometimes, so still working on that
-
It's coming along very well
Keep on playing over and over again when it's finished, that's for sure :applaud:
-
here is 2 more photos........waiting on some daisy chains from paradise arcade so I can wire up button leds....then I will start reading up on how to wire up a sidewinder for nudging purposes. Other than that shes a strutter!!!!
-
does anyone have a tutorial on how to hook up the sidewinder
-
Nice! A mini vpinball is definitely the next project I will tackle. Great job!
-
thanks ppv.....let me know if you need help

Check VPForums.org -- they are much more likely to have the info/links for this.

Welcome to the Mini-Pin builder club! I've taken a year off my cab and I still need to make new artwork for the sides. Maybe I'll just paint it with a few graphics the way you did.
-
thank you swaffar....i got a lot of inspiration from your build............You can achieve many looks with just paint....lol
