Monitors don't have "drivers" per se. They have definitions, which basically is just a list of the resolutions and refresh rates that the monitor supports. If setting windows to 800x600 at 60hz doesn't work, then that monitor doesn't really support that resolution.

Most of older (pre 2000) VGA arcade monitors I have seen only only officially support 640x480.

It might possibly support an 800x600 interlaced mode, which you may be able to get going using a video card utility.

Personally, I wouldn't even want to think about risking a nice 27" monitor by trying to drive it outside of its specs. 640x480 a pretty sweet resolution for gaming anyway. (Except for Real Time Strategy games, but who plays those on a cab anyway?)

thanks for replying.  The person that i purchased it from told me that he used it at 800 by 600. he may be wrong. i think 640 by 480 is the wrong resolution because everytime i open a new application, the whole screen shake a little and resizes.do you know how i could do this interlace thing

If it is truly a VGA (has a computer monitor plug on it), then 640x480 is the right size. Make sure you are also running it at 60 hz and not any higher. The resize thing could be any one of a number of issues, I would really have to see it in person to be able to tell.

Also, make sure all your Mame games are set to 60 hz too.

In windows, go to control panel, display.  Settings advanced, and monitor.  Under this area you can force (in most cases) display at 800x600 to 60 hz.

FYI, I use a eygo monitor.  I wrote a review on my site about it, www.imhz.com/mame (http://www.imhz.com/mame), however the 640x480 resolution is getting to be a pain in the *(&#.  next year I will be buying a good monitor that will do at least 1024x760.  I just been putting it off due to the $$$.
