I picked up 6 whole machines over the weekend, some are in questionable condition. Only 2 work for sure, another one seems to work, but has no video. the others are in various states of disrepair. My plan is to repair them to the best of my novice ability and turn the money back into working on my mame project, but in the meantime I need money to get started. If you are interested in any of these games, let me know. I am working hard at getting digital pics as soon as possible.
Those that work:
Centipede
Some screen burn in, but picture is still bright and crisp. trackball is a little sticky, probaby hasnt been cleaned in years. Side art looks to be in great shape, about 6 inches of slight water damage from sitting on concrete.
all marquees and buttons look good, control pannel plastic is worn around trackball, and is cracked at front bend. Coin mechs work, all the locks have had the tumblers removed.
Championship Baseball
some screen burn, picture is bright, but there is some ghosting and streaks. From my limited knowledge I think this might be in need of a recap. Control pannel is all pealed up, revealing a defender contol pannel underneath. I think this cab was a defender in a former life. Honestly I havent even looked inside or checked any of the locks. but It plays fine, I cant get past the second inning because I suck.
Those that dont work:
Heavy barrel
game powers up, and all the sounds work. just no video. Its really hard to play the game without being able to see what you are doing, but it sounds as though the game is working great. The overlay and the marquee are for heavy barrel, but the control pannel and front are for time soldiers. I stared at the back of the monitor for 20 minutes and couldnt see anything obviously wrong with it, but it didnt help make it work. (the screen powers up, and flickers this kinda odd very very faint pattern of colors in a circle, then in bars in a flicker) anyone know what it might be?
Gorf
Side art joystick, bezel, control pannel, its all here and looks to be in pretty good shape, both the top and bottom marquee are superb. The machine powers up, but only makes a humming noise and thats about it. no idea what is wrong or even where to start, but all the main parts looks like they are there.
Zaxxon
What a heavy beast! Im getting a little tired so Im having trouble remembering how it looks, but I know that the marquee is there and fine, and I think the side art is fair. The metal joystick and control pannel is there and looks good although quite worn. When I opened the front, I discovered that whoever had this game before was a knucklehead and didnt secure the power supply so it basically beat itself to death being moved around. as far as I can tell without testing is that the powersupply is dead. I can say this with confidence because parts of its circuit board have been broken off. I cant tell if anything else was damaged by it, but its where I am going to start.
Black Tiger
only got as far as trying to plug it in, and nothing happened. Its in a nintendo cabinet, which I know shouldnt be right, but it does have the right marquee and control pannel. Honestly this is as far as ive gotten with it.
As for selling these, while my plan is to restore them, I am only looking to make back the money I spent in saving them from destruction. If you are interested in any of these please contact me and we can try to work something out. pictures will be available detailing EVERYTHING I can find both wrong and right with the machines to aid in making a fair and honest sale. I am located in the Bay Area of California. Id love to hear from you.

Black Tiger was conversion only, so any cab is right for it.

Paigeoliver, Nice catch!, I missed that when I was looking these up on KLOV. Ive never played the game.
To those that are interested, I am located in El Sobrante/Richmond area of the Bay Area.
The games are packed into the garage like sardines, so even trying to photograph them means moving all of them back out of the garage again. But the photos are coming.

Pics will be available ASAP. I am working on it. As for distance, once I get the pics up I think you will be able to get a pretty fair assessment of the condition of the machine. If it came to it, Shipping could be an option, and I am willing to drive the machine part way if I can be compensated for time and gas. I want you to have these machines as bad as you do.
Ill get back to work now so I can have time to take those pics!

hmm, i might be willing to get a truck if the price is right for these machines. Heavy Barrel (or whatever it's converted to), black tiger, and gorf are what i am interested in.

So one of the machines, that I assume was a defender before it got turned into champion baseball, might actually be champion baseball II. Im a little confused. On KLOV champion baseball has a max players of one, and only one simultaneous player. The one I have has the same marquee as champion baseball, but has a player 2 button, and coins up for one or 2 players. but only one player can play at a time. you dont actually play against the other player. now does this make it baseball I or baseball II? I dunno.
Also, Ive realized that the defender control pad starting to show through the baseball control panel is really the upper marquee for defender, and now has holes in it. but the coin door is the original, and even has the middle slot for $1 ouch!
If I am unable to move this game as baseball, I may try and restore it to its previous defender glory. (or you can buy it and do it properly)

Klov info is wrong all the time. When in doubt, check and see how Mame operates the game in question.
Also, it seems someone else I know is interested in your Centipede, but I am thinking the price you quoted is way too high for a water damaged cabinet. Basically if a cabinet is water damaged, than the game is only worth the price of the parts inside, which in the case of a Centipede is $250 to $300.

Also, a quick reccomendation.
Sell the Black Tiger, Championship Baseball, and the Heavy Barrel. Those are not really "keepers". As long as you got a good deal on your bulk buy, then you should be able to sell these 3, and make enough to cover your costs.
Test all your monitors on the Centipede to see which ones work. Chances are good that one or more of your dead games will have a good monitor.
Recap the monitor on the Championship Baseball, and get it in the classified ads right away, Christmas is coming up, and machines make good presents. Clean it up, and list it at $250 or $300. You will probably end up getting $200 for it, which isn't bad.
Swap one of the good monitors you discovered during your test into the Heavy Barrel. Then list that in the paper too (or on ebay, I think that is a rotary joy game, and those tend to sell well on ebay).
Centipede, Gorf, and Zaxxon ARE keepers.
Before the heavy Barrel leaves you need to test your Black Tiger boardset in it (both are Jamma).
Does the Black Tiger have good sideart? If not, then sell the parts on ebay, and then sell the Nintendo cabinet separate (there is quite a market for Nintendo cabs). If it does have good sideart, then get it working in the cabinet it is in.
Next thing up is the Gorf. It is a very common game. Find someone local who has a Gorf (use RGVAC), and see if they will let you come over and test your boards in their machine. Gorf has 5 boards, test them all one at a time. Chances are that this machine has a boardset problem. Testing your boards one by one should isolate the problem board, and then you can either attempt to repair it, or to locate a replacement.

I did a little work and have the following updates for people who are interested in these machines
Heavy Barrel: by hooking it up to another machine I have confirmed that it is definitely the monitor that is the problem. I was able to play the game on another monitor hooked up. It works great. I am going to try a cap kit and a new flyback and see if that solves it
Zaxxon: The monitor I used to test Heavy Barrel was Zaxxon, so I know the monitor in Zaxxon works. no screen burn, and nice and sharp/bright.
Black Tiger: Found a wiring problem and solved it, it is fully working. the monitor is superb and the game play is perfect. I did find one button that wasnt working, and it will likely be an easy repair/fix.
Baseball: I got brave and stripped a small section. Under the black paint, was green paint, then white paint, and finally red and yellow of defender. now that I know its under there I am going to try to restore it as a defender.
I hope to have pics up of all the updates, let me know if you are interested in these quick, because they are likely on their way to ebay shortly.
