Hello,
Trying to get started building on my Arcade.
Still doing a little planning and then i started thinking about the
Speaker distance from monitor.
I will have speaker like most i have Seen in the over head scoop
" or whatever you call the top part".
(Already purchased some car speakers)
I remember reading that getting speakers To close can damage monitor.
Is there a minimum distance i need To keep within? I am using a 17 in
Crt pc monitor. Figuring out how Tall and wide to make the top "scoop"
Is the part that's getting me.
I have looked at existing cabinets and it looks like the dimensions of
A defender cab is close to what I'm Shooting for. The control panel will
Have to be bigger as I'm using a 2 Player 7 button setup. The height and
Width from left to right seems about what i need though.
I'm trying to keep my height between 4-5 ft.
My control panel is going to be 23 7/8 wide.
Cab needs to close to same.
Defender is close enough To this.
I just need some input on how tall
To make top scoop.

I don't think there is a set distance, but I would put them as far away as possible. OR get some magnetically shielded speakers which you can mount closer.
Try it out with the screen on move the speakers towards the screen. If you see any colour change or distortion in the picture then the speaker magnets are too close. Don't leave the magnets too close for a long period of time as the screen can be permanently damaged.

Personally don't see much of the point to using car speakers for arcade cabs when there are plenty of shielded pc speakers. Using pc speakers also simplifies setup and saves buying and mounting a separate amp.
But that being said, you should be fine with most cabinet dimensions because the speaker shelf is usually far enough away from the monitor. It's also best practice to keep the audio lines a little bit away from the monitor.
If on the slight chance, you do get discoloration due to your speaker magnets being too close to the monitor, then Bucking Magnets on the speakers may very well help. Look them up.

I choose car speakers only because I
Couldn't find any round pc speakers.
