Title: Need to buy some LED's - where to go?
Post by: leapinlew on May 23, 2013, 11:20:49 pm
I'm looking for a couple LED's to do a couple small things. I want to light the 25c coin returns and I want to light 2 translucent buttons. I would like lights that are ready to go with wire leads I can plug directly to a 5 or 12v source.

Did some looking and didn't what I was looking for.

You may wanna check out the places that sell computer case modding supplies and the places that sell car stuff like all the lighting.

I'm not familiar with any sources that offer regular LEDs that connect directly to 5v or 12v without a resistor.

GGG has ButtonBlaster (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=83&products_id=267) LEDs that come with the correct resistor for connecting to 5v.

Add some solder or some Euro-Style terminals (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69&products_id=201) and you're good to go.

The other possibility is that you can get socketed LEDs like these (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/108-button-leds?p=2) or these (http://www.jammaparts.net/leds/53-colored-single-leds.html) intended for illuminated buttons.

Unwrap the leads and you can pull out the LED and resistor. (Yellow 12v LED/socket from Paradise shown.)

Another source would be LED flashlights -- Around here Harbor Freight always sends out coupons for a free 9 LED flashlights in their sales ad and other places have them cheap and if you just need a few they can be a pretty cheap source for getting them.
