Title: AimTrak recoil header
Post by: stigzler on May 22, 2013, 02:36:28 pm
Hi folks. Just finished my first AimTrak lightgun hack on a £5 light gun:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logic-3-Light-Gun-Sony-Playstation-1-2-PS2-PS1-Includes-Foot-Pedal-Gcon-Adaptor-/360612646318?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_Printers_Printers_JN&hash=item53f6304dae (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logic-3-Light-Gun-Sony-Playstation-1-2-PS2-PS1-Includes-Foot-Pedal-Gcon-Adaptor-/360612646318?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_Printers_Printers_JN&hash=item53f6304dae)

Fiddly, took a day and got solder head, but on the whole, went well! Now have LCD working lightgun, with 4 other buttons assignable as well :)

Got another to set up, so gonna take some proper pics this time + post a how-to guide. Rough Pic of hack:

Two ideas sprang to mind and would like to try on my next attempt:

1. The header has a pin called "recoil." What I understand is that this sends a pulse when trigger is pulled. However, don't know what voltage nor for how long. My idea is this: place rumble unit of a DualShock controller into handle of gun and then wire up this recoil pin - anyone know if this'll work? Think it's proper purpose is to control a relay which controls a solenoid.

2, Laser sights at the bottom of the gun!! :)  - Anyone know what voltage these units are? Tried hooking it up to 5V and 12V supply - no lazer :( Would love to get this hooked up via one of the switches on the side of the gun :) but guessing can only get 5V supply from AimTrak module.

Deeper and deeper into the heart of darkness... lol

The recoil pin outputs a 5 volt pulse which varies depending on the recoil setting in the config utility, up to a max of 40 milliseconds. To power any device would need a MOSFET for driving the necessary current.

Our recoil kit contains a replacement trigger PCB which has a MOSFET on it.

Andy do you sell the guns with the recoil and aimtrak pre-installed? How many buttons does your guns come with?
