Title: Setting GroovyUME to sync in SNES games
Post by: Marcelo_20xx on May 20, 2013, 05:30:01 am
Hi,
I am new to GroovyUME but it seems what I was looking for. Currently I am trying to play SNES games but the vertical synchronization leaves some hiccups every few seconds. I am testing the horizontal scroll with Super Mario World and I don't seem to understand how groovyume achieves perfect scrolling. What are the needed setting for this?

I am using Windows XP SP3 32 Bits and a Nvidia 9600GT, thanks for any help also my monitor is a Samsumg SyncMAster B2230 LCD

Hi Marcelo,

In the probable case that your Samsung monitor works at 60 Hz, you need to make sure you're running the NTSC versions of your SNES games (either Japanese or USA). PAL roms will run at 50 Hz, so they won't sync propery to an LCD refresh rate.

I found that when I used the modelines for both SNES and Megadrive from Winmodelines http page, that they were both set to 60.01hz, and there was hiccups in the horizontal scrolling every few seconds. I then changed this 60.01hz to 59.9hz, and now they are both perfect smooth scrolling. I also read somewhere that NTSC true hz is actually something like 59.97hz or thereabouts.
