Hello, my name is Laurence, I've been a fan of the arcades for years, i remember space invaders in the arcade, I first saw it in an upstairs arcade in morrinsville in the north island of New Zealand.
I now live in Perth Australia, and decided I needed an arcade for my little girl to learn about what an arcade was really like.
I originally built a cocktail hybrid, but with the monitor I had, it was terrible.
So, I saw Donovan's design, and decided to go with that, can use a monitor now, and later a tv.
I don't know how to woodwork, I'm not handy in the slightest, so am I dumb for trying to build one in 24 hours? Absolutely!!!!
Anyways here are some pics. I know this wont be perfect, but for a first, I'm striving for usable....
I've spend approx 80$ on 18mm mdf, and had them cut to 120cm x 60cm.
This creates a problem for the sides, but I have a plan so cunning, you could pin a tail on it, and call it a weasel...
As there are two sides for each side, I'm going to route out a cavity, whack in a extension block, and attach the extra part about 20cm worth.
Anyways photos....
First photo, lining up for the jigsaw, this is the only time I used the jigsaw...
Second photo shows why...
Third photo my first, and currently only side, not the best thing to of cut first as a complete novice....
Fourth... The apprentice.....
The fifth photo is my completed sides for the base, they look uneven in the photo, though are pretty good in real life, it's because they are leaning. There is probably 1mm difference at one end, and the back angles don't perfectly match, but I'm still rapt.
Tomorrow, build the base, cut the control panel, build the control panel, at least then it should be operational...
I've spent maybe 4 hours on it?
Anyways, thanks for reading.
Laurence.

Nice start on your project,
And Welcome aboard!
24 hours is pretty optimistic, but hey, go for it.

24 Hours. ??? ??? Good Luck.
but I have a plan so cunning, you could pin a tail on it, and call it a weasel...
Blackadder......classic

You should copy the second panel from the first with your router using a a flush copy bit...

I was tired when I wrote it, meant 48 hours....
Won't happen though, after losing so much time yesterday I have too much to do today.
I tried a flush bit, but I've killed it or something, will look at it again today.
Today's job in order of preference...
Cut out cp, assemble it , put in controls. Start working on other three sides...
Wish me luck, as I'm gonna need it.

Something went wrong with my plans, but I'm happy as...
First photo.... Remember my apprentice?
Second photo... She brought an assistant...
And we finished he weekend with the third..
Spoke with the prime minister, minister of finance, and the minister for peace, commonly known as wifey, and we decided we wanted to do a four player machine to play with the kids etc.
Needs more weight at the back, wife said no to using the tv.
Anyways, it's not what we started out looking for, but give me a beer, and I was at the arcade.
-
We love our table... But it takes up a lot of room, then we saw the lusid design....
Wonder what we did today....
-
good start. :applaud:
Also hello from Perth

Today's update. Need to build the base of the control panel, build the shelf for the monitor, paint paint and paint....
Tomorrow is a holiday......
-
Doesn't really show in the photo, but control panel is silver.
-
CP seems a little over wide. Have you play tested a narrower layout that might work to your advantage. It's a good idea to ensure you really want that much overhang before you progress. I'd advise against it personally but if you're happy with it...
-
Yeah it is a little wide, but wifey really wanted a four player. We've been using a very similar one at this stage as a test, panel will be set up as p3 p1 p2 p4 so the two players get the best view, kids will get 3 and 4.
Authentic? Not in the least.
-
Are you building a box underneath player 3 and 4? It might look a bit odd just hanging out there off to the sides if all the cables are exposed...
-
The whole control panel is in a box with supports running the entire length. The photo doesn't include the box.
-
Inside for the first time. Nothing wired yet, tomorrows job.
Still waiting for the cabling that didn't come with my last order, so the two edge controllers won't be set up tomorrow.
Need to create a surround yet for the monitor.
-
Omg, I'm in love. I finally got everything wired and working. Played trog tonight... 4 player baby!!!!
