Hey All I recently was gifted 2 x Samsung 13" tube tv's and they have kind of inspired me to make a Countertop Punch Out mini cabinet. I'm wondering if this I'm biting off way more than I can chew.
My general plan would be:
-get dedicated Punch Out PCB and Harness
-Get nintendo Power supply
-Open both 13" tv's and wire monitor output from Punch Out Harness directly to R/G/B/vid-GND on chassis's
-Wire audio on Punchout harness to Audio on one of the tv's
-Create mini cabinet to house everything
-?????
-profit!
I know im missing a lot of crucial information but I think this would be the COOLEST countertop cabinet. Im looking for people with experience in any of this offering advice regarding any of these procedures.

That really sounds awesome. I don't see why you should be out of your depth here, just make sure to read up as much as you can and everything will fall into place. Really looking forward to this build, I especially like the fact that you're using a real PCB and a CRT TV. It's authentic and wil give you great picture quality.

I'd be curious to see a mockup of the dimensions.

What are your plans for wiring video into TVs?
There won't be a hook up for rgb (in the USA anyway)
Also I believe punch out, like other Nintendo boards would need a video inverter.

yeah as I thought about it more i remembered the 20ez's used an inverted signal...so punch out would put out an inverted signal, I haven't even looked at an inverter before, could someone point me to one? (thinking this would do the trick > http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=NININVAMP (http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=NININVAMP) )
I work at a computer shop and we have a basement full of old CRT monitors, would I have better luck grabbing 2 CRT monitors as far as RGB interfacing is concerned.
Does the punch out board directly output to 2 monitors or is there another "in between board" i'll need?
I still would prefer to have a dedicated PCB and 2x CRT's but if need be I have a movie format LCD and an old laptop bottom half (everything but the screen). I could put an SSD in the laptop to speed up boot and just have MAME auto load punch-out on boot. I think everyone can agree though that the PCB with 2x tube monitors would be infinitely more badass though.

Yeah, its definitely a cool project idea.
It's just a matter of working out the details.
That board from Mikesarcade is the inverter you would need.
you would need one per monitor
The punch out board set is, I beleive, 3 boards so there are 2 video boards. one video output to the top monitor and one to the bottom monitor.

I opened a 13" VGA monitor at the office today (circa 1995 Samsung). The only video input going to the monitor is a VGA (go figure). Is there a converter (CGA to VGA) I can buy that is 1)not too expensive, 2)not going to induce video lag, 3) not going to create too much heat for a compact cabinet to handle.
I can't believe for one second that this will work correctly.

Fun idea but isn't that still going to be huge for a countertop? Seems like 9" would be a nice sweet spot.

I'll also add that a "cabaret" version of a Punch-Out!! machine would be badass. Literally just a shrunken version of regular PO machine. Just a thought.
