Title: Neg's cabinet finished :)
Post by: chucklepie on May 13, 2013, 06:43:40 pm
Hello,
Back in September last year I had no woodworking or other building skills and started out with two bits of MDF (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,122792.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,122792.0.html))

Tonight I put the smoked glass on and had a game of Metal Slug. I'd like to thank you all for your help and in a way I'm quite sad it's all over (well, some MaLa bugs to iron out still.....)

Here's the first four...

Nice job!  I used the same plans to build my cabinet.

What plans, http://www.koenigs.dk? (http://www.koenigs.dk?) I started out with that design then found all the dimensions were not to my needs (too small) and it didn't have enough curves. I'll post mine up when I finish everything up as I've got some detailed numbers and drawings. Either way, this is the best design I found as it's simple yet elegant so praise to them too :)

Yup, 2 player upright.  I made mine deeper, as the "shallow" look didn't look right to me.  Other than that, its the same.  My control panel is 24" wide for example.

This is mine:  http://hyperspin-themes.com/images/cabpics/cab1/Fursphere's%20Cabinet.jpg (http://hyperspin-themes.com/images/cabpics/cab1/Fursphere's%20Cabinet.jpg)

I love your Metal Slug tank girl side art too btw.

That would be awesome if you had some schematics as I really like the design of your cab! The theme is very cool too. Great job!

Great work, a lot of hard shows in every part of your build, i know that sad feeling as you do the final touches to a machines maybe thats why I'm on my 4th build ; )

Just wanted to say thanks for the build videos its thanks to your great T molding video that made me tackle my own cabs and add T molding

Other than to finish it off I think T-molding is essential because it just feels right when you put your hand on it to rest or hit the side flipper - clean, smooth and comfortable.

But yes, I couldn't believe how easy the t-molding was either. Literally took 30 seconds to get the perfect groove. My only problem is the t-molding I bought has a wider groove (3/32) so I'm unsure if the cutter will be too big for a standard sized one (1/16th) to fit for when I do my mate's cabinet........ I suppose there's always glue  ;D

Don't be a chucklehead, Chucklepie.   :whap

Get the right tool or have your mate get it since it's for his cab.

Looks wonderful. My only suggestion would be perhaps to add a coin door where that invader is just to balance the look out.

I wanted one but they're so expensive. I couldn't justify £40 for a non-functioning cover. I'll possibly add more vinyl later.

How about this:  http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=308 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=308)

I believe garnerb350 did this in his setup:  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,90308.msg948180.html#msg948180 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,90308.msg948180.html#msg948180)

Cheers, they do look ok, but not stocked in UK I think. The real front-doors are sold but the delivery is more than the cost of the door.

On a different note, I'm just getting sick of MaLa. The newer 1.75 beta crashes more than the 1.74 and my kids simply cannot navigate and play different games on different emulators without it falling over :(

I might move to another and I wish I never bothered with MaLa, especially as it's effectively dead - I tried to contact the developer and the current 'owners' on BYOAC to take it over but got no reply.

Heh, After 7 years and 5 machines I've never actually seen mala crash.  :dunno

good day.

I'm using the treeview mode, that was a new addition, maybe that's causing the crashes.

I get 'mala suffered an internal fault and cannot continue'. Either way, it's not supported, not updated and at some point the website will not be funded....
