I'm thinking my next project will be a full arcade machine with all the bells and whistles, and everything that I don't need, but want to include just because I can. It won't be for at least a year or two, but I am starting to squirrel away files right now and want to store everything on it's own dedicated hard drive(s) as I go.
I'm looking to get a picture of Hard drive space used. I'm guessing once you get into throwing in more modern console games, daphne stuff, intro movies for HS, PC games, etc. we are talking multiple terabytes.
So my question is how much you got going on in your cabinet, and how much space does it take up?

I'll give you a grasp of what i have on a 500gb drive that's nearly completely full. all titles have screenshots and videos. might give you a general idea of what to expect in terms of capacity usage.
mame 0.142
nes
snes
megadrive/genesis
segacd
32x
sms/gg
pc-engine/tg16
gb
gbc
gba
few more..
the two biggest users of space are going to be CD isos and video clips.

1.5TB atm myself for snaps, vids, roms, etc.......and counting. Most systems are in it.
-
I only use 500gb ones in my machines, but I keep of backup collection of roms that is on a 1.5TB drive with very little room leftover.
That includes a full MAME romset+CHDs, Daphne, Taito Type X, Demul, Makaron, Model 3, Model 2, Digital Leisure light gun games, all cartridge based systems, US release Sega CD, US release Sega Saturn, & Dreamcast. If I have video snaps on there, they would only be for arcade games.
The consoles that had optical drives are what really eats up the space. I only have isos for the sytems listed above, no PS1, PS2, NeoGeoCD, TurboGrafx CD, GameCube, Wii, etc. I once saw someone selling 2TB drives with that they claimed was the entire PS2 library.
2TB is probably the going size for pokerom types (gotta catch 'em all) and they limit the optical images to the most popular titles or the first few consoles of that type.
I can see hitting around 6GB if you wanted everything that is out there. The PS2 alone is more content than you could play in a lifetime.
It would be interesting to post actual numbers for each system.
Someone from the Hyperspin team should be able to tell you what size the total content they have available for download is.
Likewise with EmuMovies.

10TB and counting.

I stopped once I saw how big the PS1 torrent was.
I think at some point you should limit to just top tens or even 100's for each system. Other than being a hoarder or bragging rights, there's no need for every crappy game made.

She just loves my big 10TB.....drive of roms that we play on emus.
sorry, couldn't help myself

120GB, all SSD. I have another 1TB drive available in the desktop, but so far I've fit Win 8, Maximus Arcade, MAME .143, Model 3, SNES, and PCSX2 all on the SSD. I have snaps and marquees but no video snaps for MAME.....too busy for me anyway. I only have a few SNES and PS2 games so far, but I put those in for a few specific 2-player co-op games and exclusive games like Star Wars Racer Revenge on PS2. I'm not planning on adding much else.
-
4TB, with around 650gb dedicated to emulation. And another 1TB dedicated to other gaming stuff.
-
500 TB and haven't even used half of it yet. I have Hyperspin with almost all video clips and title screen shots. But I only play the Top 100 or so MAME games and Top 10 or so of Genesis, Nes, Snes, some Naomi, M2. I keep it to a managable size so it doesn't take forever to back everything up and I don't care to play the thousands of other crappy games. Each to his own.

500 TB ... I keep it to a managable size...

Oops.. I meant 500GB

And to go the other way, I had one cabinet with a 600 MB hard drive, several others with 4GB and 8GB drives and even my current one only has 60GB split between 2 drives.
My desktop has around 5 TB of storage though.
-
500 gig
-
100GB SSD
10GB OS +apps
30GB Mame roms
6GB console roms (only intersted in 8-bit/16-bit era)
15GB videos/snaps
So I still have about 35GB left for other stuff I might want to add in the future.

My vertical cab has 2tb, my racing cab has a 180 ssd and a 1.5tb data drive. My horizontal cab has a 500gig with a 1tb data drive. My htpc has 250gig with a 2tb data drive. My backup drive is a 2tb.
