Title: GBP - LED Build
Post by: CoryBee on May 07, 2013, 06:00:37 am
This project originally started as a machine for my home but I decided to put it on hold for travels and since then someone made an offer I couldn't refuse. Here is a link to the build log. (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=121490.0) I will save the art and template for "Clyde's Corner" to possibly be used in the future.

I did some reinforcing and a few changes to the shell like a bigger monitor (23inch widescreen)

Some shots before it got purchased

I vote more dust, I'm waiting on the cocktail machine.  And another nice job,  Are you now also creating your own artwork as this one is a step up.

Don't think I've ever seen t-molding across the bottom like that before. Very Tron-like!

Cool shape.  I didn't like the shape until it was finished.

What about the one next to it....looks like the same shape but with a notch and external CP box.

Yea I was originally going for a classical curve shape, it was done free-hand. The 4-Player is an almost duplicate (mind a few changes structurally and cosmetically), that is this build (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131613.0.html)

I appreciate the encouragement. I worked with the customer to come up with some spiffy art for this one. As well as to make the front-end match.

I can honestly say kick ass build man.....

future builds use 2X2's instead of 2X4's for bracing, cuts down on your weight....

really digging that front t-molding job as well....

The front t-molding was a last minute thing. I didn't realize I let a side of the base sticking out and decided to t-mold it to hide it and it turned out really well. Unfortunately I didn't do this on the 4-player build but should have.

Looks good, Cory. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the top rear corner. It makes the cab look too boxy in my opinion. A slight curve or angle on the top rear would take these builds over the top.

Oh yeah, surprised he got the t-molding around that corner.

It looks good.  Simple and to the point.  I like machines that don't get too crazy and the curves work well.  The T-Molding is definitely tron-ish too.

Love the compliments, and the little things you guys mention always improve my builds the next time over.

He is having it painted with decals all over it today by some graffiti artist guy. Hopefully that will look awesome and I will definitely post pictures once I get some from him.

I miss it already, now to finish the software for the Red\Black 4-Player.

No more cheapo LED buttons, I want to see some translucent ILs on your next one! >:D

Love it

Like these? (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/59-il-translucent-buttons)

I love the concave buttons over these convex ones so I will choose these next LED build.

Yup! ;D

I'd go with either these (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742002757.html) or these (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/579-hoku-il-rgb-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742005796.html).

I quite like the black plunger ones but having them glow completely would be a big bonus as well.

Ah hell. LInk to the LED inserts? Or are they similar to the one I am currently using?

RGB:

Single color:

Or you can wire your own. I've used cheap 5mm LEDs in translucent IL buttons on a number of occasions.

Just got some picture of the graffiti job. What do you guys think? I quite like it, but I also liked it in black.

Thanks guys. He is having a blast with this thing.

I will leave it as an option for any future build customers to have it painted by him.

I remember when you first came on with your machines and got a hard ride from guys about the quality. I can't believe how tight they're looking now, you obviously have the enviable ability to take criticism and turn it into results! Absolutely sweet builds you have going now, and so fraaking many of them! You sure you're not a robot that doesn't need sleep or food, just arcade machine building? In any case it looks killer, love the graffiti idea, love the lit buttons. Sick build!

Comments like this are the best. Not quite at robot yet, I'll aim for cyborg for now. I have a handfull of bartops made for customers that I haven't posted on for the sake of not being overly repetitive on here.

So is this a full time gig for you now?  Looking stellar man, absolutely stellar.

I wouldn't say full-time but my girl seems to think otherwise. My normal work is tedious and easy. That's why I like building these, provides me with a challenge and puzzles to solve every time I make one.
