That reminds me - I need to call the NRH location, I was told to ask if they could put something on a truck for me if I won, since they have one coming down soon.
-
We are all so glad to hear you were reminded

Awesome, glad I could bring spread some happiness around

SO the playdium auctions are online now? Wow, it's been a few years since I went to one of them but I don't like the idea of making it online only....oh well.....

I live in Toronto, just east actually, Ajax Ontario.
Early on when I got into the hobby Starburst (IE Playdium) was the only show in town.
I've been going to the acutions for years. I loved them !
Most of my collection when I started came from SB. And like others I would buy and flip, however not in bulk...just the odd cabinet now and then.
My first mame cabinet (mymissiontomame.blogspot.com) came from the auction, $75 for a working Street Fighter vs X-Men. To be honest I love fighting games and the bulk of the customers were slightly older than myself and the fighthing games were just not a draw for them.
As the years went on the auctions grew in size and the machines got larger (or so it seemed to me), lots of showcase cabinets, large driving or gun based games. The last few I went to had very little that appealed to me.
Next thing I saw was the live auctions stopped and the online started. Locally the feeling is the live auctions will never return, and seeing the prices fetched online makes thatvery clear. Things are selling for WAY WAY WAY more then they would at the live auction.
All good things come to an end I gues.
I can tell you I got my FAS foosball table @ SB auction for $175 + %15 tax. GREAT DEAL !
A Killer Instinct cabinet with Capcom vs SNK for $75 + %15 tax.
Them days are gone !

I imagine their Canada location works like their auctions down here in Texas - in-person preview then actual bidding is online. I've picked up a few great deals from them.

That is sort of sad, I really enjoyed the few Starburst auctions I have attended over the years and can't say I am surprised that the prices have been inflated by the online aspect. There were always a small percentage of shady characters at the auctions I attended...doubt I will take part in the online version...shame...
Oh, and Mike Boss, you and I might be neighbours, I am in Ajax too, Westney and Rossland area.

Just an FYI for anybody thinking of bidding in the future from playdium.
We bought a number of larger items from this auction. (3 games - 5 pieces shipped in total).
All the items were nicely wrapped in plastic wrap and bubble wrapped. One of the larger marquees had a cardboard protector fashioned to protect the front. Everything was strapped on sturdy pallets. Showed up in great condition all exactly as described in the auction.
10/10 for shipping preparation.

I've been very happy with their auctions down here in Texas (actually previewed today and bidding tonight). I've gone to preview and actually found damage shown in photos online had been fixed since posting. They do seem to be incredibly up-front with condition. If you pick up, they couldn't be more helpful with the loading. Basically did it all for me.

The auctions are great.... the prices are terrible. Especially with that stupid soft close that keeps the bidding going for hours after the "close". Don't get me wrong I understand why they are doing it. Obviously they make way more money, just sucks for the local collector that can't get anything

^^ Exactly, brad808 that is the issue. Good to hear they are delivering in great condition as lilshawn was saying, but maybe with the extra $ they are bringing in they can afford it.
