so i redid a control panel with the spinner, 3 buttons and a trigger joystick. after some teething getting the minipac all worked out (all operator error or tweaks) i settled in to play some tron.
granted, I have not played an actual tron since probably 2004 but this joystick doesn't feel right at all for it. alfter using it I was wondering if the tron joystick was a 4 way cause it just felt wrong.
but I looked it up and it isn't, so it must be this joystick. maybe it doesn't feel as tight as I remember? plus i'm growing to really dislike microswitch joysticks.
my intention was to eventually remove the shaft and replace it with the tron reproduction joystick I got from groovygamegear, but after using this stick I think a better alternative needs to be found unless a miracle happens and an actual Tron cab falls into my lap.
anyone have a suggestion for an alternative joystick?

The TRON joystick was an 8-way, but it used a special restrictor plate (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/TRON_joystick) that made hitting the diagonals harder -- Encryptor was selling repros here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,86520.msg908546.html) but he's out as of late Dec 2012.

For a better joystick idea, look at Le Chuck's Darkade (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,116602.msg1235195.html) and his related thread on TRON in-game autoswitching (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,117395.msg1243777.html#msg1243777).
Now that autoswitching sticks are becoming more common, you should have a variety of sticks to choose from.

that could be it. just seemed like an 8 way would be a PITA for the tank and lightcycle portions, and it is, frankly.
I'll check into those links, thanks.

I use it for spiders, cone, & tanks, and use a regular restricted 4-way for light cycles. It's a decent compromise, but it does suck when you forget to switch to the other stick.

I don't forget, and I use my U360 for cycles, but the game overall isn't good enough to care that much.
