Title: Vewlix and Older Games ?
Post by: BillinIndiana on April 26, 2013, 07:11:55 pm
So, I just read about Vewlix cabinets.. What does it look like if you play say Pacman on it? Does it just use the center portion of the LCD screen and have black sections on both sides?

Yep, you can have mame use bezels to fill in the sides or use a custom bezel. Bezel artwork http://mameworld.info/mrdo/mame_artwork_ingame.php (http://mameworld.info/mrdo/mame_artwork_ingame.php)

This (http://www.cooleywire.com/jimmyh/mame/artwork.html) page has widescreen bezels for more than 50 games.

Vewlix monitors rotatable, and custom vewlix clones have been made which are rotatable on-the-fly (in seconds, no tools required).  You'll still have a bit of border with 4:3 games on the 16:9 monitor, but they'll be a lot smaller than when trying to play a vertical game on a horizontal screen.
