Title: Play as Pauline in DK - MAME!

I haven't installed it yet (my DK is in storage due to construction on my house) but as soon as I can I'm adding this to my gamelist.  My daughter will love it!

I've tested in MAME, if you follow his readme instructions exactly, seems to work great. To avoid replacing my dkong U.S. set 1 I just copied, put it with misfit mame and then launch it through a batch file in my front end.

It's awesome that he did this, ever since the viral video a while back for the NES version I've been hoping someone would do arcade.

javeryh do you know the story behind this remake? i actually saw it on the yahoo homepage. basically a programmer's daughter (the name is escaping me) asked he dad why donkey kong didn't allow you to play as a princess and he didn't have a good answer, so he surprised here and made a remake were you can plan as pauline.

short story, but that's a very thoughtful dad.

Retro, that's true but that's for the NES version, done by a guy named Mike Mika. This most recent one is done by Clay Cowgill. Basically the same mod for the arcade version.

Reddit has some linkage (http://www.reddit.com/r/MAME/comments/1d5jgz/mame_patch_for_donkey_kong_pauline_edition/) for compiling a new version of mame so that the patched version of DK is renamed "dkongpe.zip" allowing you to play DK and this patched version in the same romset.

Thanks, it works.

 If you use the dkongpe.diff patch then add dkongpe: under dkong: in hiscore.dat to save the high score.

Or you can just get it at a place that has HBE roms.

EDIT: Sorry guys didn't realize it applied to hacks as well.

For anyone not sure why I posted what I did above, re-read the forum rules (http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_message_rules.html), specifically #5.   :police:

Everyone has read the rules, right -- if not, it doesn't take long.

Failure to abide by the rules -- especially #5 -- may force Saint to shut down the forums.   :angry:
