Hey all,
I've been working hard to launch a dice game that my daughter invented and I'm to the final stage - retail packaging. To help finance I've entered a contest to win some funds.
If you would consider voting for my wish I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Wow! I really didn't anticipate the reception. Thanks folks! I guess that's why I'm still poking around in here even though I'm so slammed I have almost no time to think lately and have had to shelve my arcade stuff for the time being.
Now I'll have to find a way to change the typo in my subject.
I do have a poor game play video that we shot almost a year ago. The two kids in the video are playing it for the first time. I'm going to get some better video and put it on the site. It's just a matter of finding the time. The website is up but just barely. I have a couple of retail stores that have already agreed to carry it and I need to have at least a rudimentary site in place. It's a serious work in progress. Along with this comes LinkedIn, YouTube, Pintrest, Facebook, Google+ and a million other things. A ton to do and learn but certainly rewarding. The coolest part is getting to really be a part of my kid's life.
The video is in my public dropbox. I think. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59995256/VIDEO0023.3gp
We also recently auditioned for a new reality show similar to Shark Tank. Even if this goes nowhere, my daughter got to experience something that she'll remember for the rest of her life. It's all good.
Thanks everyone!
I think the votes get tallied in May but I'll have to check on that.
This place amazes me. And I mean that, seriously. Saint, you are a saint.
Now back to creating content and learning how to do all this stuff. Hey, I built a few MAME rigs. I can do anything!

Another Vote. Good luck.

It's going. All word of mouth right now since I've stopped advertising it while I get this project up and running. We're waiting for my parents to move closer so we can open up a larger commercial kitchen. It's been really hard to have the two main bakers living 3 hours apart. I really got my shipping process nailed and I think I picked up my first corporate client for next December's Holiday baskets.

This is awesome. I can tell you all she's getting a kick out of this, watching the votes go up every day. I should be getting my custom dice here in about 4 weeks and that's the last piece to a complete finished retail product. I've considered a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to get the retail artwork / packaging done. I just don't have the capacity to mess with it myself.
Thanks again for all your voting. What a kick!

Bump. Let's go peeps. She needs our votes still!

So here's the thing. I've put this out to exactly three groups. My wife's Facebook, My sister's Facebook, and here. I would bet, and I may actually tally this, that BYOAC is responsible for over half of the votes so far. I think I know why - and it makes me smile. We always want the high score, don't we?
Thanks again! We are having a lot of fun.
-
We all want a shoutout in the directions!

It's funny you say that because I've been flirting with the idea of a "Founder's Club" on the website, especially if I go the Kickstarter route for funding. Three Squares is as much about the story behind the game as it is the game itself. Why shouldn't I highlight those who brought it to life?

Let's shoot for getting your daughter up to 200 tomorrow. OK, I guess I am competitive... :laugh2:

194 as of my last vote.

Looks like you can vote multiple times on the same computer if you have more than one browser.
She is over 200 now.
-
I think we should see a nice uptick over the next couple days since Grandma (read: the original Danish Pastry Artist) got word. We scored over 25 hits since last night. You all rock!

I didn't realize that. Added three more. And IE 64 bit counts separately than regular IE.
And someone owes me large from firing up not one but TWO IE windows.... I feel unclean after using it!

Two more votes for today. Too bad there aren't rankings so we could see where she stands.
-
Three more votes. Quickly approaching 300!

My daughter just voted # 297!
This is so fun. It's kinda like playing a funky modern-retro play-by-mail game from Flying Buffalo (http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/).
You all rock!
I should have the first production run of 1000 dice made in a couple weeks. Already have one retailer, and three others on the line that may be interested in carrying it. I think we'll do a few farmer's markets here too. It really does gather a following. I wish I thought of it. :)
I sent a few of these out to members here who bought my Danish Pastry. At the time the verbiage on the rule set was still pretty confusing. I wonder if anyone who got a game even played it, or gave up in confusion? Let me know. The new verbiage on the rule set is much easier to understand. The game play is identical to the original.
You should check out the alternate rule set for the game that I've called Three Cheers. It's the over 21 version. Same game play, but with drinks. Warning: It can do damage pretty quick. Check it out on the website. Last time we played we had 6 of us playing and about 5 more standing around watching and waiting to get in.

So we got our first sale resulting from this contest!
It's only one, and it's a prototype but still very playable. We've been playing it for over a year in its current form. Thanks everyone - we're over 323 now.
-
Votered - sorry I didn't start earlier. I'll try and catch up

I want to thank you all for the outpouring of support for our mission. With only a few days to go, we are hoping to make it to 500. That just seems like a good round number that my daughter can focus on. I know its more of a nuisance at this point than it is excitement. Rest assured my kid doesn't see it that way. If only we all remember the excitement of finding a new game. OK, I'm off my podium. You all rock.
Thanks.

I'll do what I can, but to be honest, I have been forgetting the last couple days, busy at work I guess.
What is the deadline? I'd be fine if you posted a daily reminder here since I am a lazy guy. Edit: Nevermind, I see it. May 12th is the last day. I don't think I need the reminder

aaaaannnnnnnd......lazy item #2. I am just putting this link on page two as one less click to get there.

We didn't win. :(
In about 17 days we should have our first production run of 1000 custom dice in hand. Custom tiddlywinks and vials with our company logo are under negotiation. I'll have enough stocking stuffers for the next decade.
Thanks again everyone!

Was fun voting.
Also what's all this talk earlier of Danish Pastries?!?!?!!!!!

We also didn't make it on to the new upcoming show "Billy Bob's World" which was recently picked up for at least a few episodes. It's a show that focuses on the journey of Jonah White who invented those silly fake hillbilly teeth. Thing is, part of the show was about new inventors with novel products and how they can bring them to market. My daughter did get an audition and she actually made it to the final round before being non-selected for the first few episodes. That was something we were working on before I brought this up to you all in the first place. If more episodes get picked up we get thrown back in to the hopper. I'll tell you, it's been really, really fun to share this experience with her and she's so level headed about it, it's remarkable.
Now the reason for the post. I just got in my first batch of 1000 custom dice and I'm assembling the final packaging. To support this mission when I bring it to retailers, I'd like to have a very simple flash game on the website that is a digital version of the game. That way people can play it online and if they are so inclined they can buy a physical product. I am considering Android and iPhone apps as well. It's been like 15+ years since I was into programming so for me to do this would take forever to get up to speed, even assembling the open source code that's available. To that end, I wonder if any of you have any interest in building such an animal. I'm looking for the flash version to imbed in my site as well as to promote to other websites that feature flash gaming. I have a limited budget, but I do have a budget. Maybe we can just talk about it? I'm not looking for something very involved, at first. Just a simple animated die for one player vs. three or four bots. The rule set is simple and the random doll of the die is trivial as well. I can supply artwork, I just can't code any more.
Any one interested in getting some exposure for their skilz? Or someone who loves Danish Pastry that's interested in a deal? Please let me know. I've come here first since you all have a wide range of skills and attention to gaming in general. It seems like a natural fit.
Here is what I envision.
Click on the die to roll it. IOr even just click on the "Roll Die" button to generate a random die face. Based on game rules, the player can mover ships from any player to another based on game rules. When one player gets all the chips, game is over and a "You Win" message appears. I can go in to depth, or you can check out the rules for the Three Squares game on www.beakergames.com (http://www.beakergames.com). I don't need a bunch of super fancy stuff at this point.
Anyone? I have no idea what the going rate is for something like this. Rather come here than go to a local university and look for students or a recent grad to showcase their work.
