I've been interested in making a cabinet for a while, and I finally dove in. My problem is that I have a 24" Sanyo tube TV that has composite, s-video and component inputs. However the problem is that the component only accepts 480i. I've purchased multiple VGA->Component converter boxes only to find out that the output of the converter box needs to be at least 480p.
I always have the option to fall back to s-video, but I specifically bought this TV because it had a component input.
Does anyone out there use their component inputs on their TV that have to be 480i? And if so, how did you do it?

And then dialing your video card down to 480i? I am fairly certain that the ArcadeVGA can adjust to that...

I bought one of the cables originally, and didn't get any output on my TV, so I thought I needed a converter box. I didn't change any resolution settings on my computer though. Worth a try though.

Changing settings in the video software that came with your card is definitely the way to go.
You may have to visit the manufacturer's website to find it.
It doesn't always install automatically with the drivers.

only some cards support using that cable.
You need to find a card that supports component out via a S-VideoC output. Most newer cards only come with HDMI so you may have to search around for an older card, possibly second hand. See pictures below. The input looks like a S-video output but has many more pins.

404 is generally smarter that I am so I'd listen to him first.
I was able to get 480i working well in windows 7 natively, not even a instal of video software or drivers, just the OS. It evern works vertical/tate natively. The newer catalyst drivers dropped support for 480i so XP was much more of a pain messing with hacked drivers and software.

I have component working with a BFG Tech GeForce 7800GT, and the adaptor cable... But I am running TinyXP...

Yes many ATI cards, especially older models can run component out (think its a Sync on green issue) with no issues whatsoever. My best suggestions is simply to test out your card. If it doesn't work, you will just need to get another card with component capabilities. Luckily, you can still get capable ATI 3-5 series cards and Nvidia 6-9 series cards with component out.
It's simply a matter of experimentation.
