Title: LED Heart
Post by: CoryBee on April 19, 2013, 04:21:04 am
A little heart I made for my lady friend. I think it turned out pretty well.

Started off with a template of a heart and Photoshopped in her nick name
Glued the template onto a piece of 3\4" MDF, then drilled some relief holes for the jigsaw (all I have to make cuts like this)

Routed out space for the LED strips to sit & the 9v battery compartment

Sand & Paint

Wired it up then decided it would be a good idea to have a switch on it

"Light up the darkness"

Will add some picture frame hang things so it can go up on a wall

Thanks guys, I made her a little blinking circuit board in the shape of a heart before and she loved it. That was a bunch of SMD components. So it isn't my first rodeo with LEDs, I thought about throwing in a small circuit and 555 timer to get some cool effects (still might).

She loves hand made things and I think they speak to a whole different level as a gift compared to some shite you could get at walmart or target.

Uhm, if I understand that corectly....You think I am trying to save up to buy something for the house? You would be wrong, I am saving up to afford more trips abroad.

Added red t-molding from the 4-player cabinet, tricky to get it in the "butt" portion of the heart

Why you guys do dis to me?  :banghead:

Listened to you and decided to step it up a notch and make this thing breath\beat

Threw together a "555-Timer" circuit, almost literally. All the parts except for "timer" were scavenged from electronics around the workbench, NPN was an exceptional pain to find.

Underside

Cut down the board, routed out a little bit more of the heart's battery area and glued it under the battery. Battery is held in place by blue tack stuff (stuffs like removable glue)

Now that it beats, there must be a video (at the end I flip the switch to turn it off\on)

Nice work!  Would have been great for Valentines but it shows alot of ingenuity and I hope you are rewarded appropriately.

This ^^^

Also, I made her the LED blinking heart I mentioned earlier for valentines day in Ireland. It was only like an inch big and ran off of a button cell battery. This thing takes the cake, it is a gift for her first visit to California.

She absolutely loved the heart, which is what has been keeping me so busy.......

I am thinking about throwing some other ones together for family members. Not a heart, maybe like a bird (eagle?) with blue LEDs, a rose, or how about a Batman symbol with white LEDs?

How about a black Batman symbol with yellow LEDs?

Possibly a factor of growing up watching Adam West batman, but that's where I'd go with that.  ;)

Either way, really nice work.  ;D

Nice work CoryBee.
I vote for the batman symbol idea too.  :applaud:

(I'm currently working on a fight stick for a friend with a floating bat signal)

Batman and yellow LEDs wins. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

Should I make them breath as well?
