Title: help with arcadeSD and stereo speaker connection
Post by: happyfunball on April 17, 2013, 09:11:02 am
so I see the ArcadeSD has what looks like a standard computer connector for hooking up speakers. the pins look just like a spot on a standard pc motherboard for hooking up all the usual buttons, lights, speakers and such from a computer case.

however, I don't know what that type of connector is called, and where I might get one other than just going to a computer parts store, looking for something that has it and clipping it off.

however, after that, what is next. could I take a set of stereo computer speakers, clip the plug off the end and use that to wire it up? which pins would it go on?

or has somebody already done all this and I can just order it up?

any help appreciated,

Tim

and I just looked at the wiring diagram again and there are also speaker connections on the jamma interface. even more confusing.

The 4 pins is just a header, looks very similar to the old cdrom connectors, It should be Right, Ground, Ground, Left (or Left, ground, ground, Right)  You will probably find that an Old CD Rom audio cable or a 3.5" Floppy drive power connector would do the job, it depends on the pitch of the pins.  (I couldn't see that anywhere).  Looks like 0.1 or similar.

Looking at the boards jamma interface pinout I would say that the Jamma speaker connection only offers mono (But can have a speaker connected directly to them). Whereas the header pins would be stereo output but non amplified you would most likely need to take the signal from those pins into an amplifier and connect speakers to the amp.

It should be Right, Ground, Ground, Left (or Left, ground, ground, Right)

I disagree. Looking at the traces, it appears to be (from top to bottom) Right, Ground, Left, Ground (or Left, Ground, Right, Ground).

yea, further investigating shows the jamma speaker is mono, the connector is stereo.
I have the question into the guy who designed it, about the pinout and weather the sound is output to both regardless. Kind of suprised its not in the manual as the board has been out well over a year.
maybe nobody actually uses that connector.

the board arrives today so many physical inspection will reveal something.
