I followed one of the main page links for No Name MAME. There's not much info about what's different from the official MAME releases. What's No Name MAME do that other versions do not do?

In a word, everything.
Apparently No Name Mame incorporates just about every single patch available for Mame. At least that is the idea I got from reading the thread about it.

There is a NoNameMame thread that is several pages long, read the first page.

A brief list:
-very partial Analog+ things (working on fixing that up now)
-somewhere around 500 more games supported (maybe more)
-a whole buch of fixes and stuff
There is alot more, but I'm too lazy to open up the changelog and look. Feel free to download it yourself and look. If you have any feature suggestions, feel free to contact me. You get bonus points if you include source code to add the requested features, but its not a requirement.

And hopefully it will have Kaillera support in the future too, hey TheGatesofBill. ;D

It will, but my life would be much easier if someone had the source to MAME32 0.67 (you know, the front end version).

I got still have it. How do you want it sent to you?
(It's 403kb, and needs the official mame source which you can still get from mame.net if you don't have it.)

My e-mail box can handle that no problem. Send it to: thegatesofbill@comcast.net . Thanks a ton u_rebelscum!

Sent.
You're lucky I double checked what I attached, because the first file I did was a 6+ megs zipped full mame32 source file I also kept for some reason. I'm lucky, too, 'cause now I have 6 more megs free space. :D Thanks!
-
Heh, my box could have handled the 6 megs (I think the limit is 10). Anyways, thanks for the source. So far today I created a diff for all the Kaillera stuff, and have added probably at least half of it. I will most likely have it working by the next release. I just need to finish adding all the code (I have to do most of it by hand), and then fix the inevitable compile errors. Gimme about a week and I'll have it done. ;)

Good stuff!

Is it true that NoNameMame has platform dependent optimizations so that it will run faster on my Athlon XP than the "vanilla" mamepp.exe?

If you send me an e-mail requesting an ATHLON build, I will compile it for you and send it to you somehow. At the moment, I am not releasing them with the builds, simply because I don't want to spend 3 days compiling before every release. ;)
-
I emailed you.
What environment is required to rebuild? Maybe I can download the source and rebuild, especially if it's as simple as doing a "make -<some athlon specific options>" (hint).

Not really. Although the athlon builds do add the slightest preformance boost, it is so minimal that you won't notice it. Also the athlon builds were originally meant for the now ancient k6 chip, so I'm unsure if they were kept up with the newer chip functions.
-
Hey! I'm still running one of those "ancient" K6 ;) Not for Mame though...
