Just to let you know....
linkage... ?? which article?
Well at least we can restart our m$ vs linux zealotry argument (paging Dr. Casto to the argument clinic)
rampy
PS never mind.. found it games.slashdot.article on 1up's cab (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/11/09/0242254)
stupid assklown first poster troll though =(

Huh? I don't get /.
That looks like a preview of some "article" but there's no link to the whole thing?
First poster troll? Wha?
I'm going back to my abacus.
-
The sad thing is the link in the article points to one of the prototypes. People are blasting the project as being ugly, when they haven't seen the finished product. Typical Slashdot.

So... does anyone besides me NOT see the big hype about /.? It appears to be a groups of guys with small ***** who think they are smarter than everybody else and only have time to either go into a doctoral dissertation on a subject or just say something incredibly stupid because they don't get it? ???
It's appears they try to say something clever to get extra point, what do the points go towards? Are they like tickets at the funplex where you can trade them in on a crappy prize or what? ;)

well /. is a huge group of geeks and techies... and like any community there's good and bad and indifferent posters... I find that there's a ton of chaff for every little bit of wheat... *shrug* I find it interesting/useful in the same way as my wired mag subscription...

that one isn't a good one to base opinions of /. on. They are usually better - I never read comments unless it's a front page article.

Slashdot is in fact pretty stupid. I check it regularly though b/c like 5% of the time I will find a news story that actually interests me...

You must not consider yourself a nerd.... :)
Actually it's quite usefull if you are a linux user/administrator or are just interested in bashing Microsoft...also there are generally some interesting stories and some good debates occasionally. It was once a refuge of *nix sysadmins for news regarding anything and everything linux...but it's grown far beyond that.
-
I'm a Mac programmer, and I've become a slashdot regular.
Sure there are a ton of morons on there, but that's what the point system is for. I don't even see posts that are below a level 2, so it makes for much more interesting reading. Sifts the chaff a bit better.
And some days there's just no news, so the stories aren't great. But some days the news is very good. I've expanded my horizons with some of the political and scientific topics that have come up. And I think the whole SCO thing is funny, in a sick and twisted sort of way. =)

How much of an insult is this? (From Slashdot)

TazMan would be the first to credit me with the inspiration for the Mametrix. He started it several months after mine was finished, and I answered lots of questions for him while he was in progress.
Geez, nice guys over there... At least I'm getting some defense from the more attentive people, but all of the top level posts are extremely negative and insulting. There are even some "my idea is so much better than yours, even though I have no idea how I'm going to do it, or if it even works" type of posts. What a bunch of dixx... :P
Well, at least I now have the bandwidth to handle the traffic, but I've found out how petty and juvenile people can be. Thanks again, slashdot.
BTW, if you can't find the rest of the posts, scroll down (I dont' know why they always put so much space between the top post and the rest...)
-
yeah well don't take offense to it.... those guys really are idiots.
Just read through a couple of the posts on that story and there is one specific one where the writer talks about building his own arcade cabinet someday with this new idea he came up with..... multiple control panels that you can swap in and out!!! Holy crap what a revelation!
-
It looks like most of these guys have no idea what they're talking about. Don't sweat it 1up, most anyone who has a clue about all this stuff will know the facts or (even more likely) will get the facts before mudslinging like that...
If it makes you feel any better, your cab was the one which inspired me to get into all this... ;D
-
man they even mention my site in there. At least they got it right when they said:
"Plus this cabinet has been around for awhile. There are a couple of people using his [1UP's] idea on their cabinet. http://arcade.tomvanhorn.com/"
Sadly, while there are interesting news items on /. the people, on the whole, can be idiots. Obviously I"m a big supporter :)

Ah, I wash my hands of them. If you even try to defend yourself in a calm and civil way after being ripped a new one, they accuse you of freaking out. I took exception to a guy's comment that my cab looked like something Sanford and Son built, which to me is pretty blatantly saying that it looks like something from a junkyard--garbage. I thought I expressed myself pretty calmly, but then he accuses me of getting flustered and not having any self confidence. A big San Fernando Valley-style "what-ever" to that one... ::)

heh they aren't the classiest folks. If I cared what they thought I would send them a picture of the trashcade next to a picture of any of our cabs...then let them honestly try to deny the obvious. We might see them go "OOOH Elizabeth! This is tha' big one!" heh heh. ::)
-
you really shouldn't be knocking the trashcade!
-
those clowns on games/. don't know the difference between vaporware and reality. If they can think of something, it already exists and is better than anything else in their minds.. ::)
-
Hmm...funny, I'm getting a lot of spam and phony bounced messages since I got into an argument with someone in that thread. Coincidence? ::)
-
its all pretty lame as near as I can tell--its what you expect when someone can type whatever they want with no real repercussions--if you actually met one of these guys, I'm sure they would be nice as pie or would shrink into a corner somewhere ::)--thats why this board is so good..1. we can appreciate excellence in game design and 2. there are few people (with a couple of exceptions) that don't go around dissing everyone and talking a big game without backing it up.
Take it from a guy who is elbows deep in a 1-up cab--it's a tricky cab to build but man this design is worth it! Again great work 1up!
