Competition #113: Pepper II
Romset: Pepper II ( version 8 )
Lives: 3
Bonus Life: 40,000
Last day is Sunday, April 21th (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2013.
General Rules:
- One Credit, No Continues.
- Highest score wins.
- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).
- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed. No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game. Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.
- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.
Good luck!
-
Not a fan, but I gave it a fair shot.
54,690
Sorry for the quality. All others I took, are just fine, except for this one and I can't take another at the moment.
Comtek, post your score for reference, so we know what we are up against.
Btw I wonder if Tafoid gonna play. I found info that he provided version 7 to mame team. I'm assuming that's "our" Tafoid, might be someone else and just a nickname coincidence. Although that nick is quite unique.. I think.
Another EDIT: I just noticed that the compo is set for only 1 week. I'm all fine and dandy with that, but usually standard is 2 weeks. It's up to you Comtek... I think.

I think I hate this game, though, so.....
-

I will try and get a score up here tonight

Didn't we already play Amidar?
Man, this game is fast.
After a couple of practice games, I got 141,760.

I have a question.
when making .inp recordings will it overwrite the one from my last game session or does it just add to it.
I thought I had a recording but when I went to watch it all I had was yesterdays session
-
307,280
if you want to view the inp you will need to rename it
it would not let me upload .inp so I changed the extention to .txt just rename to .inp
-
Great score, I almost got to 200k yesterday. What joystick do you use? What program can play the inp file? Could you upload it to youtube?
-
just start up mame32 and under file you should see load
i'm using a cordless rumblepad and it does not work the best.
-
i'm having problems playing back the inp file seems my game is missing from the file
i'll have to try and make another one tonight and beat my score
-
Ya all don't understand how inps work, I see. Think apples with apples, and I think it needs to be zipped to post here.
-
yeah I think but for some reason my high score was not on it when I watched I back.
maybe it only records so long.
i'm working on upping the score and getting a working inp with it
-
No definitely don't know how inps work. Are you recording with mameui32 too without any addins? I have a logitech rumblepad too, wonder if it would help score. Do you use the dpad or the analog stick?
-
I use the dpad
i'm using mameuifx32.
then hit file playback input and select an inp file then sit back and watch
-
Pepper II hurts my shoulder. Ouch.
-
close as I can get is around 260,000
-
Must have been a couple of freak games a start freaking when I see i'm over 200,000 and panic

Son of a gun... I didn't notice he changed the date! I guess one more week then!
-
Yeah. This gonna a be a long'un.
-
I figured a week was long enough on this game.
i'm happy with switching today :)
-
No shorting this one guys! Up till yesterday I was barely able to break 40k. Just tonight things started to click. Here is my score of 213,610. I'm pretty sure that I can better that.
-
Still can't get the inp file to play on mameui32, any hints? Here is my latest but still so far away.
-
I know for me to get the inp I had to put it into the mame/inp dir.
the hit ply input under the file menu.
they would not work unless the were in the inp dir my mame would just play whatever was in there
I have uploaded a recording of my game to youtube here
pepper2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEF3iWMW2hU#)
-
That might be the problem, I just downloaded to my desktop. Excellent run! We have the same strategy of keeping the devil alive, you are just better than me at it!
-
I don't think I can get to 200Ks
-
what games are people looking to play next time.
only thing I can think of is zaxxon on qix
still hope someone tops my score
2 days left get zipping

does the winner not get to pic the next game :) or is there a rule I missed about picking two in a row
-
I have several scores around 300k. Unfortunately I seem to lose 2-3 lives very quickly doing something stupid.
-

There is a fail/safe of sorts against people picking games they can play over and over. If you win 2 times in a row, 2nd place winner picks the next competition.
-
just as I thought.
-
roughly 12 hours left and here is the standings so far
1st - comtek - 341,290
2nd - idsane - 263,550
3rd - jasonbar - 202,830
4th - kixfan - 198,120

310,480
I'm done. Nice score Comtek! :applaud: I don't know how many times I'd get to about 300k and then just lose it.
-

-
Break Thru... (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131915.0.html)

Well, I added it to mame source and it's attributed to me because I had no actual name as a dumper source. It was found in on of those "non-mame" packages and MAME likes to have all the versions of a game it can find for historical reasons. I would have likely participated in this and other recent contest but computer issues over the last couple months have relegated me to a part-time observer.
