Title: backlighting edges - need some input

hey guys,

i am FINALLY going to start my new build, it'll be a star trek themed cab.  the two out sides will be tiered and i was wondering what the best method would be to light those edges?  i'm thinking on the outside tier, i could route in a a small bit and do some lighting there.  the two pieces that are further out will be black and the center piece that is recessed will be red so i'd like to get some accent lighting to make that red pop.

any thoughts?

PL1's got you covered.  Recently for my Battletech POD I used LED strips with a dimmer for the back-light on the control panel.  They work amazingly well as long as you don't switch the +/-.

I would suggest doing something like this.  LED strips can be had cheap on ebay and the dimmer too.  Then you can control how bright they are as well as power them off your computer's 12v rail.  If the links PL1 gave you don't have what you're looking for keep an eye on the VR3.0 pod threads in the projects area.  I'll update it soon with how I did mine.

kind of like the alien abduction machine in that it has a recessed circle.

if you look at the center design with the start trek logo in the below post, i think it will make more sense.  the shaded area will be red, the white areas will be black, so, trying to get those edges to light up the red a bit.
