A great documentary, almost as fascinating ad the King of Kong, still got Chasing Ghosts in the queue.
While the subject matter is close to my interests I have to say I just love watching documentaries, I love the way they just drop you into worlds you've never seen.

Do you know if it's the unedited version of Chasing Ghosts, or is it the Netflix version?
-
Not sure I downloaded it from somewhere

Then it's probably the unedited version. Lots of laughs, especially when Robert Mruczek's art collection shows up.

I've not seen Special When Lit for a while. Can you tell me if it is safe for younger kids?
My youngest wanted to watch Chasing Ghosts last fall. (We skipped past the segment with the creepy Bezerk player). Out of nowhere Steve Sanders drops an f-bomb which caught me off guard. I don't remember anything like that in Special When Lit but it has been a while since I watched it.

I think its pretty safe although I just watched it with my wife do we didn't have kid safe radar on
-
That was my problem with Chasing Ghosts. Didn't think the kids would be interested so I wasn't watching it with that filter.
-
It was fun to watch! :applaud:

Never seen it. I will have to add it to my list.
By the title "Special When Lit", can I assume it's about playing pinball while drunk? ;D

I hear PBJ makes a cameo.

Are you sure he wasn't the one person constantly on the film, at least until he demanded that every shot that he was in gets edited out?
-
I liked it until I watched the bonus features and commentary. That ruined it for me.
There were some historical looking documents and stuff that are just cobbled together in photoshop and shown for for effect.
(manuals and schematics that don't really exist and aren't based on the actual hardware, etc)
When they show pictures of conventions and meetings, often they are random pics of unknown conventions the filmmaker found on the web,
not pictures from the conventions he is talking about.
There was more along the same lines, but I no longer remember.
EDIT: it's on Hulu http://www.hulu.com/watch/243423 (http://www.hulu.com/watch/243423)

Watched half of chasing ghosts this morning, not particularly well done doesn't really seem to capture any nostalgia IMHO

Watched Special When Lit. Pinball was just before my time and though I remember seeing lots of and playing some of them. As a result pins don’t currently fascinate me as much as the vids. The passion of the pin players seems similar.
I can relate to some of the sentiments of the pinball guys. Being in the zone. One with the machine. Extension of the arms. The machine wearing you down. Filling up the entire high score board. And the dancing guy is so epic.

He was awesome!!

High Score is another doc you might find interesting. It is free on Hulu and covers a guys effort to beat the Missile Command high score.

Watched High Score. The "Electronics Genius" is a big let down. They try a gazillion boards but no one looks at the power supply. Would have done better by trying to find a stable machine first, or at least restoring/ repairing/ hardening the one they had. A competent arcade repair person probably would have gladly fixed up the machine properly in light of the world record attempt.

I really enjoyed "Chasing Ghosts" because of the firsthand accounts the principal players shared. I was too young to experience the golden age the way they did, so I found their experiences interesting.
