Title: Question Regarding Game list + Hyperspin
Post by: Yourname942 on March 27, 2013, 07:53:17 pm
Does anyone know how to make the Hyperspin game wheel only list the games that I have? I tried using Don's hyperspin list tools, but I can't figure it out :S

I'm trying to set up mame games, snes, and genesis atm. Thanks.

You pretty much have to edit the list.xml file for MAME.  You can do it manually or use Don's hyperspin list tools.

You can also use Romlister to remove genre's of games but pretty much the above are the only options I'm fully aware of.

What problems are you having with Don's?  I found that my sets of roms were not "official" so Don didn't recognize any of them.  I had to redownload all of my rom sets to get the official ones that would be recognized.

The main key with using Hyperspin or any of the related tools is proper naming.  Look at the xml files that you can download from hyperlist.  All of your roms should have the exact same names as in those lists.

I had better luck creating themes for each of the games,.. Now granted, I don't plan on having hundred or so games, only about 50 or less, since scrolling through the games takes longer to do than finish a game. Back to the point, Hyperspin has an option to display only games with themes, so that is how I made my short list of games, is via that theme toggle.

romlister has the ability to take an input XML file (mame's -listXML for example) and then compare the contents of a folder of zip files (must be zip files) and shrink down the xml file based on your available roms.  It's in the settings and tools section.  It's also fairly slow.  just let it chew on it for awhile while you play a game of frogger or 2.  When it is done, you'll have a brand new XML file that should mirror your available ROMs.  I think you can just load that XML file into HS, or have romlister output a hyperspin list based on an "all roms list".

this will not work for anything other than MAME AFAIK.  Importing other XML files, such as the above mentioned hyperspin XMLs is something I am actively working on, so this support may be available in the not so distant future.

HyperROM2XML has the ability to create a game entry for every file in a directory, although if you're using standard romsets you'd be better off just editing the existing XML files.  HyperROM2XMLworks great for things like Visual Pinball / Future Pinball though.
