Title: Custom AimTrak IR led bar
Post by: wetwaterwalker on March 26, 2013, 05:21:54 pm
Hello all,

Well in the spirit of all things arcade related, I recently purchased a pair of aimtraks for my machine and a couple of old happ shells to put them in. Well all was well when testing them on my computer but then after actually hooking them to my arcade machine, the guns can't see the sensor bar when pointing them at the bottom of the screen.  So I know the simple answer would be to move the aimtrak's closer to the end of the barrel but that would be too easy xD So my question is... Would the aim trak's benefit from lining the screen with IR leds like done on some of the "real" arcade machines.  I feel like this would help in the end with calibration between varying heights, stances and grips as well. I can pick up some IR leds on ebay for a little bit of nothing and was just wondering if it'd make a difference or be a waste of time. My biggest concern is that I do not know how the software reads the signals. I didn't know if the layout was specific and couldn't be messed with or what. Thanks Guys!

So I did a little bit of mock up testing with a Wii sensor bar at the bottom of the screen just for laughs. Well I found that when I reach a certain point towards the bottom of the screen the mouse cursor jumps to the top of the screen. Same thing when I am checking for infrared interferance with the aimtrak utility.  So unless there is some kind of tweak that I can do in the software it is looking like the additional Leds are gonna be a no go.  Any one else having these problems?  I'm using a 27" CRT horizontal btw.
