Title: PacLed64 board question
Post by: gavinshull on March 24, 2013, 01:19:29 am
Hey got a quick question for you experts out there. Hooked up my single color leds , 36 in all to this board and i am starting to think i may need another one to run all of these lights. Looks like only the + terminals are giving power and guessing the numbered one are just for RGB lights...is this correct? Also am i able to daisy chain all the negative terminals for the leds and connect to the negative terminal on this board like i am doing to the ipac4 or am i wiring this incorrectly?

Thanks for any help

That would be connecting them in the exact opposite way intended.  From the Ultimarc site:

Each LED must have its negative connection (cathode) connected to one of the numbered pins 1-64.
Each LED must also have its positive (anode) connection connected to one of the supply pins marked “+”. Note it does not matter which of the “+” pins you use as they are all connected together on the board.

Unlike buttons, the direction of the current when hooking up LEDs actually matters.  This is because they are diodes.  If you hook them up incorrectly, at best they won't work.  At worst, you could damage them.
