Title: Button & Stick Recommendations for Bartop?
Post by: Meph on March 20, 2013, 05:41:16 pm
As the topic says, I am looking for some button and stick recommendations for some bartop builds.  My other 2 machines are both restored Mortal Kombat machines with Happ buttons and Competition sticks.  Those are the only sticks and buttons I have used.  Obviously I need something lower profile due to space limitations.  I have 3 bartop builds I am working on.  One is classic 1-3 button games and one will be 6-7 button fighters.  So any suggestions are welcome.  What is everyone using for their bartop builds and why?

These kind of threads can go on forever because everyone has their opinions and preferences.

Possibly a good choice for a bartop would be Sanwa JLF sticks or Seimitsu sticks. they're lower profile. I know a few guys here prefer JLFs for fighters and Seimitsus definitely seem to be the preferred shmup stick.
Sanwa buttons are pretty low profile.

For low profile buttons, take a look at the Ultimarc Goldleafs (http://www.ultimarc.com/goldleaf.html).

They're designed for use with wood panels up to 3/4", they're lower profile than regular microswitch pushbuttons, and have .110" tabs.

That's exactly why I posted this.  I was looking for opinions and preferences.  I looked through a lot of build threads but most people don't really describe the buttons or sticks they used and why.  I was leaning toward Sanwa JLF for my kids bartop but they won't be playing fighters so that is probably not the best choice.  Their bartop will be classic games (DK, Galaga, Pacman, etc) and NES/SNES/Genesis emus.

I like those buttons.  I am definitely going to order some and check those out.  Thanks.

The gold leaf buttons are compact and so silent I have to put it to my ear to hear it. I just wish ultimarc's magstiks were the same. If their newer sticks are quieter than the older ones, I can't imagine how loud they would be!
