Title: PacLED64 & RGB Light Strips
Post by: nck1285 on March 18, 2013, 06:25:59 pm
Hey guys,

It seems I can't power more than 30 of these LEDs in a single strip without the brightness being severely effected. It's as if the LEDs aren't getting enough power from the PacLED board. When I test the boards with just 3 LEDs (on a single strip), they are extremely bright like I am expecting. I have plenty of power running to the board (5 AMPS) so I know that is not the issue. I have the strips wired to ports +, 16, 17, and 18. I have an LEDWiz here as well which can power the strip no problem at maximum brightness using the same power supply. Do you have any idea what I could do to boost the brightness? I've tried several combinations with no success.

5050 RGB LED's for those wondering. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm nearing my project end!

My guess would be the PacLED is limiting the current.  Do you have a multimeter you can measure the output current to see what is actually going to the LEDs?

The PacLED64 controls the current at 20mA per channel so LEDs can be used without resistors. To run higher currents needs a MOSFET in the circuit to switch the LEDs.
