Title: some Mala questions and help needed
Post by: tony.silveira on March 17, 2013, 04:48:42 pm
hi all,

i decided to upgrade to win7 64bit to get an extra boost in performance and am very happy with the decision.  but i was using mamewah and was having issues in a 64bit OS so i decided to try mall out.  so far i am very happy with it but i am having some setup issues with specific emulators.  i'm hoping there is a mala pro out there who could share their set ups?

most of the issues are with CD based systems and mounting with daemon tools.  i can get some to work with no issues but others seem to hang.

one other thing, in mamewah, there is a line in the ini to point to a name.dat so that game names will display properly.  is there anyhing like that in mala that i am just missing?

here is a list of emu's  have successfully set up:
mame
daphne
sega model 3
stella (atari 2600)
winUAE
fusion (sega master, genesis, sega CD, 32x, game gear)
project64 (nintendo 64)
nestopia
zsnes
future pinball
supergrafx
turbografx
mess (atari 7800, adventurevision, arcadia, astrocade, channel f, coleco, intellivision, atari lynx, ti-99, vectrex, CD-I))
nullDC (dreamcast)
ssf (sega saturn)
atari 5200
neo geo pocket
gameboy
gameboy color
odyssey 2

and here is my problem list, keep in mind, i had all of these running under mamewah:

winKawaks (neo geo)
m2emulator (sega model 2)
VBadvance (gameboy advance)
mednafen (virtualboy)
pc-fx
4DO 1.1.1.1 beta (3DO)
amiga cd32
unz (fm towns marty)
psxfin (playstation 1)
turbografx CD

any help is appreciated

Sega M2:

I only have arcade emulators in my cabinet, so picking from your "non-working" list, I'll give you one lead on how to solve the Sega M2 emulator.

See this link where I address it:

Best of luck.

thanks wade, appreciate the feedback.

i did get model 2 to load and play fullscreen.  unfortunately, hitting my normal quit (p1 start + p2 start = esc) only causes the emu to go into window mode.  I tried hotkeys but they aren't making any sense to me or just arent working the way i think they should?

model 2 quits with an "alt + f4".  i tried setting that as the "close" command within mala but it doesnt work.  any help?

Mala's close hotkeys are pretty good, but limit you to certain combo keys. I haven't looked at Mala's hot keys for a while but ALT + F4 combo might not be possible. Some key combos aren't possible. Make sure you use the correct syntax. Search this forum for help.

On my cab for example I use #2 + #4 keys to close for ALL emulators. In order to do this I had to use AutoHotKey script. 3rd party software outside of Mala. It's not too tough to figure out. You just write a short script that runs in the background and controls the closing.

So...I'd suggest using Auto Hot Key. Also make sure there aren't any conficts with using your P1 + P2 combo. They may be why its going to window mode. Check the core coding with M2 first, THEN configure the outside software coding....M2, AHK, etc.

I hope that helps.

I think I used a program called closemul for model 2.
IIRC, add closemul.exe then a space, then the regular model2 command line.
Something like (from memory and probably wrong):
closemul.exe m2emulator.exe 1%.zip

It's in uncleT's guide stickied at the top of this forum.

You're probably better off learning autohotkey though.
You'll probably need it for something else down the road.

thanks guys, i'll give closemul a try tonight, it is what i used to use with MameWAH.  I have an AHK or two that folks have helped me with but it's like another language to me, i just can't wrap my head around it.

FYI, I am editing my list up top as I'm a bone head and have gotten quite a few more to work.  I think I just hit a wall that night, trying to do to many set ups in one evening can make your brain mushy.

EDIT:  Closemul worked liek a charm.  Not just model 2 but I am now using it for other problem emu's where ESC isn't the quit emu command.
