Title: Skinning in Raging Dragon?
Post by: 1UP on April 07, 2002, 10:22:28 pm
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience editing skins in RD?  I've been trying to make one similar to ArcadeFX, with just the thumbnails at bottom, the screenshot and marquee on the cab, and the flyer to the right.

My main problem is that when I load the existing skins into the editor, the marquee etc don't line up with the BG.  I can't tell if the BG is just not scaling, or if I need to factor some offset with the different elements.  Either way, I'm having a hard time telling if the graphics are placed correctly.

Thanks for any advice!!!

My guess is that you probably don't have the latest version of the skinner.  Make sure you have the one that comes with beta 5...

Also a note on some of the older skins.....  Since I've been adding elements to them some of them won't load correctly in the skinner.

They work just fine in RD but that's because I've programmed Rd to be backwards compatable.  I have NOT programmed the skinner that way in order to make sure all skins are converted to the new format.  These skins still work fine, the elements simply need to be re-positioned if your going to use them as a template.  It's a one time thing, once you do it you'll never have to do it again, and it will still work in RD like it always does.

Thanks Howard, but one more question.  How would I go about starting a new skin from scratch?  Do I simply need to make a folder in the themes folder, containing the properly named image and sound files?  I sort of expected the skinner to have a menu for selecting the pictures for BG, flyers, etc but maybe it does that automatically.  ???

BTW, I do have the latest skinner.  Maybe it's the old skins that are causing the probs.

The best way to start a skin from scratch is to simply copy the default skin to a new folder.  I usually take the rd skin and replace the background and go from there.

The only reason I don't allow RDSkinner to import images is simply because it isn't necessary.  If they're properly named then they will be loaded as long as they are in that skins folder.  I could add this, it just didn't seem useful to me so I didn't bother. :)
